One of the best 12 bit drum machines ever made. The samples are really clean and punchy. Additional sounds can be added by purchasing PCM cards (if you can find any). Also the voices can be edited in more ways than what is usually associated with a drum machine - not only can you alter the pitch, level and panning of the voices, but also the ADSR envelope, the auto-bend amount and the loop points, thus giving you access to a virtually unlimited palette of high quality percussion sounds. If you can get your hands on one of these babies, just listen to the demo song - you're not going to believe your ears.

RX5 has an - un hip sort of drum machine but true users of this machine can soon discover that the editing potential of this machine was ahead of its time - and can still provide some unusual results.
Cartidges with Latin / Heavy Rock / Jazz / acoustic were available from Yamaha as well as blank Roms to store your own edited sounds and sets
The ability to have multi pitched vertions of timbres on differnt pads as well as responding to velocity via a midi keyboard allow pitched sounds to be created
Lesser known - Sound Source Unlimited did in the Late 80's create its own 808 - 909 Cartridge ( well before the current megga craze ) With the editing posibilities of this machine it could have well been ahead of the current 909 clone craze !!
