Well, I read all the reviews, and some of you guys judged this synth as a bad synth, just because of various very known reasons like : You don't have proper ears for electronic sounds, you just are ingnorant and just about good enough to get a Nord lead and play with factory presets, or finally you just have two left hands of a cripple and nothing comes out of the synth...
She is classic analog, she is as classic as a Synthi or a MiniMoog. She just is an old lady now in 2003, and it needs great care. She has a cosmic sound very appreciated by people in the ambient scene, and it has been like this for 30 years (Klaus Schulze liked this synth from the beginning..and listen to "Crystal lake" among others) For those who dislike her, please let them be owned by people who will love to own her, and get yourself some other synth. But PLEASE stop saying she is a bad synth, say that you don't like it, otherwise in front of a synth-freak person you won't get any credibility. I put a 4 mark, because it is damn fragile, especially sliders. Otherwise it goes to 5 easily for sounds..

Finally got what has to be one of the nicest white Ody's on the planet. What a beauty, but I paid $900 for it, something I wouldn't recommend for just any old Odyssey out there. I'm not complaining though. I owned a MK III black/orange and it never really did it for me, just sounded kinda....there. This is a very warm sounding synth with tons of modulation possibilities. I think it's the most flexible, non-modular synth I've ever worked with. How can anyone say they've never got anything musical out of it???? Oh well, different strokes...I'm debating on getting the front panel patched out, but don't know if I want to drill it up, although it would make it even more fun than it is now. Decisions, decisions...Anybody ever done this? How'd it work out for you, etc....Anyways, I'm glad I finally picked one up. The earlier review that mentioned getting caught up in the tweaking process was absolutely right. You'll lose track of time digging into this baby. Have fun!!

Catch of the day. My very close and dear friend had told me in class she had bought a synthesizer for me at an estate sale...I asked "is it a casio?" Since I'm all about circuit bending cheap shit...she said "no, I forget what kind...I payed five dollars for it though..."
Well, lo and behold what I'm adding to my gearlist...Black and gold ARP Odyssey (yep, the moog patent infringement one) and ARP little Brother. Thanks buddy, I owe you one.
Gonna get it refurbished soon, since the portamento slider and envelope sliders don't work all that well...But can still make some insane sounds, and the resonance will kill your ears. <s> YES! </s>

finally got a cv/gate added- whiteface odyssey at $750,it really screams.i really love it. but it also can be controlled easily 'coz it's wild. the sounds growing w/o your willingness.ever tried my friend's mk2,imo,more raw,but actually every odyssey is different i think.i tried alesis a6 days b4, it can nearly emulate the odyssey screaming leads but it costs $2500,of course,it can make other kind of sound(something i feel it is hybrid digital/analog sounds),depends on everyone's taste.for me,i quite like the arp sound and &750 is worth for the odyssey sound,but for $2500.i wish i could get 3x2600 someday.
