1. 8 outs stock. 2. Way above average delay/echo effects, really nice. 3. Sturdy build. Built like a tank in fact. 4. The classic MPC pads. Cant be beat. 5. SCSI connection standard. 6. Easy to use interface, but not graphical, may be a negative to new schoolers. 8. 4 midi outs, control a whole rack from this box with seamless timing. 7. Awesome sampling engine, sample from a digital source like a wav or from cd-rom, the sound is crisp and clean, sample from an analog source, your getting that classic hip hop sound. No problem. Always keeps its punch though.
All in all, this box is was way ahead of its time, it is still viable in ANY studio, personally I'm using it now with Pro Tools 6 and life has never been better.
I give it a 4.5, but will round it up to 5 for the hell of it.
One.

This is the legendary MPC3000. If you own one: never sell it!! If everything else fails (pc's, macs, eKo's) this is the piece that will save your day. Use it WITH all the stuff of today (motifs/tritons, logic/protools). I don't understand all the hate among some of you. This is a CLASSIC musical instrument, just like a Stradivarius or something. The big pro about is that it's so easy to use. You can start making beats and music right away. No need for a manual here. I started using the MPC3k after working with two producers who started every song with the MPC. I've also used it on some sample cd's I recently made. peace.

i do four on the floor beats on my 3000 and they sound DOPE!!!!
i always get a good response from Dance heads, and when they find out i used a MPC for all sequencing, they love it even more.

People still use MPCs cause it forces you to create music with your ears rather than visually. I use Pro Tools and an MPC,the MPC is my band, and in Pro Tools I can how you say, update its sound, by recording at 24bits, adding pro effects, rearranging the beat in grid mode, compressing the beat, giving it that "future" sound, no problem....if i used Logic w/Plug Ins, Reason, etc to create beats i dont think my music would have the same umph.
I would be forced to think my music out instead of going by feel.

I am a well known old skool (old fool) r'n'b producer here in LA I have worked with some pretty big cats over the years & I would have too agree with what you say about the mpc 3000 being "played out" but I disagree with you on the sound of a cd in a laptop being any betta' than the mpc or sp1200. There is some truth in what you say, but if anything the mpc is more useful than ever, as you can use it for making up a wicked drum groove with that fat mpc 3000 sound then print it to your laptop in audio going thru fat eq's etc which sound far betta' than any cd - this is how we do - here in LA...holla to all the mpc loving cats who kno... yo!
