I have just got rid of mine after 5 years of use I just find it slighty dated now & even though its got a tuff groove & feel - the whole sound is just getting too familiar & tired in this day & age - we are in the computer age & you can get griity fat funky whatever out of a mac logic /reason /cubase whatever else mad software apps outhere & have it all on one mac & mix the whole thang down in there with pro results. I know for a fact that busta /nelly /neptunes have used cubase & logic on a good few of thier tracks & mixed the whole backing track in a mac cause at the end of day its all 0s &1s & the sound ends up as 0s & 1s in the end anyways hell even the mpc 3000 is run by an old mac processor - did ya think it was some special machine created by roger linn - well no he just designed the software & akai designed the pads & outer case & its all powered from a motorola processor which is the exact same used in an lc 475 mac from early 90s - I know this because my uncle worked for akai as a tech between 89 & 98. This machine is no different from todays macs running an app like logic or cubase ,only difference was in the old days macs had to run other shit like the os which threw the midi timing way off but todays macs have everything sorted out with audio to midi & latency etc which gives you pin point accuracy which means rock solid timing & rock solid groove if you bother to swing a beat in logic using the mpc groove templates with an mpc pad controller you'll see that its much much more tighter which makes it funkier & layering beats on top of each other has no slop whic im afraid the mpc 3k is guilty of not that thats a problem but it can be a bit annoying in todays music. It was a great machine for its time but Im afraid we are turning a page finally in hip hop & dance where macs & pc's are finally taking over as the new all in one solution that the mpc was. I use my titanium powerbook like I did the mpc 3k for everything now & I can generate synths samplers galore & even take around with to record vocals on the fly at different places & now I can even download an mpc 3k libary set - load it straight into exs all mapped out & bring it up on the mpd 16 pad controller & use an mpc groove template which imho sounds far better than the real thing.

i'm sorry to all the 2000XL owners, it is a good machine, but the 3000 just owns. that is really all there is to it.

ive owned the 2000XL,60,3000, and have played with a 4000...the 3000 is the best, sounds the best, does indeed groove the hardest and is super easy to use despite the lack of a graphic editing screen, which is not really a necessity....

i am currently using a MPC3000, a triton LE, and a ProTools Digi 001 running on a G4, with these three tools I can do anything, from g-funk to layed back downtempo, to gritty early 90s hip hop....get with it.

The 3000 controls the whole setup. It cant be fucked with, straight up.

peace.

I'm back with an update. It's been a few years of having the 3000 and we're in an age of plug-ins and comps. Just go look on ebay and you'll find all the same drum machines and hardware synth's at half price then where they were about 2 years ago. It's ridiculous I agree, but these days the next generation of music makers use computers and hey, they are powerful, you have like 10-20+ hours of sampling time, all the effects, etc, etc. I have used logic, macs, pc's, sonar, pro-tools, and while they are all powerful, nothing will ever take the place of the 3000. Everything put into it sounds 1000 X's better because your paying for the converters. Your hands on. It's a friggin monster. Not to mention I got some big time things happening with my music/albums. Honestly there's no going back and the prices on these things is dropping too which is a shame since in a few years they will be unbelievably expensive. So if you find one under $1,900 then don't think twice. GET IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'll never sell mine.

I've owned a MPC2000 and a MPC2000XL, my latest purchase was a MPC3000 to see if the hype was true. Thankfully it is. Being a long time MPC user the most obvious benefits of the 3000 are its ad/da converters(far clearer sounding) and its amazing dynamic filter(awesome sounding filter that really manipulates any sound put into it). The OS is different but easier to use, especially the mixer. The only cons I can think of are that the LCD light is naturally dimmer and burns out fairly quickly and that you can't do realtime quantize rolls(1/16 to 1/32 rolls), unlike the 2000's. Still though it doesn't take much to program them anyway. Also there's no graphic editing of loops like the 2000's. Personally I do this editing in my computer so I don't miss it at all. Overall this tank built workhorse is a tight, tight, tight sequencer and gets the hands on creative juices flowing immediately(something a computer still has trouble doing and I have a titanium with every bit of software known to man). Long live the MPC3000 (Great moments in MPC3000 history DJ Shadow Entroducing, Dr Dre(NWA)
