my first experience with an mpc was about 9 years ago ,the mpc6011. it made me some pretty sucessfull records.after which i then decided on moving up to cubase atari then mac which pretty much made my downfall in the music biz .i just found my inspiration lost since moving into software seqs & wasting about a year on about 4 finished tracks. anyway last year i thought fuck this crap im gonna either give up 4 good or i have to do something drastic to my studio to get back my creativity.so i sold my mac g3/g4 half of my synths (i'm now left with 2 only) & got an mpc 3000 le .it pretty much changed my life ,everything feels right again even a crap tune has something good about it . i liked it so much i decided to get an mpc 2kxl & used it for about 6 months before i realized that the mpc3k le just had something more special about it .the sound of everything just had a bit more grunt & power & definetly more bass response.now the 2 kxl is still a good machine & more suited to drum'n'bass (160/180bpms) because it has a tighter more straight feel than the mpc3k le which seems to be more suited to slower bpms(140 to 80) for garage r'n'b/hip hop & in my experince has more of the classic sound of the mpc 60/60mk2 which im very much used to.

since I last posted about the 3000, i opened up my mpc 3000 to get dust out I found a loose screw rolling around I couldnt find where it was from,so we'll see what happens, but I found out how the bug got created, when you go to the assign section, and change a pad assignment to decay at 2000 hi 2000 lo,I forgot that that was the last thing i was messing with, and it freaked out after I left it at that setting,so i changed it back to the assignment being on tuning for all pads, now lets see whats going to happen when I have to use decay on my unit in assign mode.will keep u posted as to further results. i

I HAVE OWNED THE THE 3000 SINCE THE 1ST DAY THEY WERE SHIPPED I WAS LICKY ENOUGH TO BE WORKING AT SAM ASH WHEN THEY WERE SHIPPED I WAS THE 1ST ON THE LIST,SINCE SO MANY WERE SKEPTICAL ABOUT THE UNIT AND THE PRICE ,REMEMBER WHEN THEY 1ST HIT THEY WERE SELLING FOR $2999.99 AND TODAY ARE STILL WORTH THE SAME MONEY,BY NO MISTAKE.I LOVE THE 3000 OVER THE 2000,BUT IF I SAW A 2000 OR THE XL FOR THOSE PAWN PRICES I HAVE BEEN HEARING ABOUT I WOULD GET ONE OF THOSE IN A HEARTBEAT.BOTTOM LINE GET WHICH ONE U CAN AFFORD AND JUST GET GOIN DOIN THE MUSIC IT REALLY DONT MATTER ,BECAUSE U GOT TO HAVE A LOT OF TALENTED PEOPLE OUT THERE JUST BURNING CATS W/3000'S ON THERE ON THEIR 2000'S AND VICE VERSA ,JUST DO THE MUSIC AND CHILL. I HAVE RECENTLY HAD MY ONLY MAJOR PROBLEM W/ THE 3000 3.11 UNIT I AM GETTING BUGS IN THE SOFTWARE MESSAGE I DONT KNOW IF THATS THE EPROM I PUT IN OR THE MOTHERBOARD,AND IT WOULD BE A HASSLE TO SEND IT TO TEXAS,IF I DIDNT HAVE TO.IF ANY ONE KNOWS OF THIS PROBLEM CONTACT ME.....PLEASE...PEACE & PLAY ON....

Hey, I have a 32mb MPC3000(v3.10). It was super easy to do it too, just follow the instructions on that rlinn page. You don't have to get any special upgrades or anything, just order the 30-pin 16mb simms and drop 'em in, remove the 2meg board and you're set to go. I had a really weird problem when i first turned on the unit, in that whenever i tried to sample it would crash, but since then i've had no problems.

The 32Mb Linn memory upgrade for the MPC3000 is effectively a "third-party" modification by Roger Linn Design.
The MPC3000 RAM was originally expandable to a max of 16Mb (2 x 4Mb SIMMS plus the 8Mb Akai board from the S3000) however Linn have obviously found a way to improve on this (I do not know if Linn provide an operating system upgrade to allow this or whether the 32Mb can be accessed on the existingO/S).
Akai will obviously stand by *their* upgrade options, I'd be extremely surprised if they recommended another companies mods for their machines, even if they are by Roger Linn!
Have a look at http://www.rlinndesign.com/support.html for contact details for the 32Mb upgrade.
