Just for the ones who don't know:

The MPC3000 can have max 32 Mb of memory and a new sofware update v 3.12 can be downloaded from the Roger Linn site.

Recently I was saving money, because I had to buy a new car. Then I saw the MPC 3000 at a store, worked a bit with it and fell totally in LOVE. So I'm still driving in my old rusty, noisy car and using the MPC in the studio for all my drumtracks now. I am curious what the new software update (sys 3.12, from the Roger Linn homepage) will do. Does anyone know if I can return to the old version of the software (3.11) and what will be the benefit of the 3.12 version ? I also want to know that, if I install the video display connector, if I can still use the small display on the MPC3000.

I just found an MPC3000 v3.8 for $600.00!(lucky me) I am now going to slave the MPC2000 to the 3000 and use the four midi out on the 3000 as well as the two midi outs on the 2000. I will tell you how it works later...

I own a 2000 and also use my friends 3000. To everybody who think that the 3000 is better than the 2000 and vice versa think about it this way. To me the 3000 beats the 2000 as far as (kick drum) and (vocals hook) sounds. But the 2000 has a more distorted sound in the higher frequencies and less bass. This effect to me makes snares and hi-hats sound a lot better than a 3000. I'm used to the 2000 so I believe it has a better sequencer. The 3000 is a little more complicated while doing only the same thing as the 2000 (+ plus two midi outs). It all come down to WHAT IN THE HELL ARE YOU TRYING TO ACCOMPLISH!

I had a MPC3000 for awhile, though I unfortunately had to sell it...

I would say that the main reason that it is valued so much more than the MPC2000 is hype.

However, I do think it is better than the MPC2000, just not as much as the price would seem to indicate.

Two Reasons:

1.Really, really fast/easy OS. All the ops are one or two botton presses away, this is helpful when you're trying to flow quickly.

2.High quality outputs. I think that the sound quality of the MPC is smoother, more accurate, and bassier than the MPC2000. This really matters most in kick sounds and longer looped samples, but not so much for snares or hi-hats.

But really, these things can be compensated for with external EQ etc. It's just nice to have things sound right at the source though.

All in all, if they made a MPC2000xl, but with balanced, high quality outputs, then I would get that over a MPC3000. I still like the 3000 though.

Just a few of my thoughts.
