Just picked one up from a pawn shop for 399.95!!!! I did have the MPC2K, and the 3K just simply blows it away!!!!! I wish I could give it a 10 instead of 5!!!!!!!

Umm, Mr. 1 out of 5 marks, it's THE SOUND! THE SOUND, man! I own both the MPC 2k and 3K and I can tell you I wish I waited before purchasing the MPC2k because it's sitting taking up space while the MPC3k is being USED! I don't think people on this thread shout out just because they want to jump on the 3k bandwagon. There's a reason why it's preferred over the MPC2k...it delivers!! In sound quality, in ease of use ( I know...mine was easier to sequence w/ than the MPC2000) in almost every category. Funny...with less RAM and expandability, people out there are doing MORE with their MPC3k's than the MPC2000. True, some expansion options are wanting on the 3000 but not many, bro. Not to mention, the 3000 OS was NEVER as buggy as the 2000 or the 2kxl.

Yeah, a used MPC3k costs mad money. But to me it's worth it and obviously more than half the MPC heads out there feel the same way. I'm not trashing the MPC2k...remember I own one. I'm just getter better results faster with my MPC3000.

Check this...if the MPC2000 is your MPC of choice and it's putting food on your table then more power to you. Work with what ya got! Besides, all you want is a hardware sequencer anyway, right?

I have had it for 2 years now and it does its job very well. Akai don,t make it anymore, so hold on to it if you have one. There nothing like it in the market. I have released singles just using it with sample CDs. I will never let go mine.

Only-1 a professional user from USA writes:
Even though it is considered to be the best in it's class by most, I only wish that Akai or Roger Linn would create a new software version "3.12" where it would allow the MPC3k to be upgraded with effects such as time stretching, looping and maybe simple reverbs like other modern samplers. However, keep in mind by all means I'm not complaining because it still gets the job done in more ways than average.
