Great sound quality, easy to use, best budget sampler (sp-202, su10).

It's a good sampler, but getting it to respond in multi-mode is a pain in the ass. Not very user friendly. It hogs up all your MIDI channels. I suppose for studio work it's fine, but in a live situation, not very cool. But you still can't beat it for the price. Especially what i paid for it=0) $275 fully expanded. Anyone have an easier solution?

My experience with this machine has led me to one conclusion: cool as fuck! This was my first sampler and is perfect for those that are new to the sample-surgery deal. I bought it fully loaded with the extra memory, which is worth the money ($50-$70U.S.) i would say. I still use mine all the time (mainly cause i am broke!), and it does a good job on what its supposed to do, which is being the MPC2000's little sister. creating crazy drum loops ala-aphex-twin can be a little difficult at first, but its not really that hard once you get the hang of how too use the beat and sample tempo controls. If your looking for a affordable sampler thats not gimmiky like the SP-202(which uses salary-eating smart media cards for extra memory), then this is the one for you.

I've had mine for about 2 months and it's everything I expected it to be. For the money I don't see how you can do better, though the lack of filters is a bit of a pain. It means that it's very tempting to just use it as a drum machine, which could just as well be done by a much less powerful machine. Can't expect SCSI on a machine this cheap and it does have many positive attributes, not least of which being the ease of editting.

Perhaps someone could tell me how exactly how they are transfering files from their computer to an S20-formatted disk. Are you saving S files or A files?

andrew a part-timer user from usa writes:
errrm....no, you can't sample a new loop while one is playing.

and there really are a shitload of bugs. i've started to notice more and more...things like quite often when all the 16 banks contain samples, the pads for the first 4 samples dont do anything unless you're in edit mode...and the priorities seem to get fucked up sometimes; high priority sounds often will be muted by lower priority sounds with a different loop setting...and such.

but overall quite nice. mine's strictly a drum machine (hell, with 8 voices what else can you do?)
