I had this machine for 2 years now. Actually i bought it cos the demo made me laugh so much I had to have it. So cheesy. But now I've come to really really like it alot. I use a combination of the internal sounds and my keyboard sounds (i midi them up). And the 4 outputs is very useful. I've found it better than newer drum machines like zoom because it actually has more to control. Panning/volume/sound of each pad is nice and easy. I like it!

I paid $107 used for mine recently and it's like new, I think it's a great machine for the price I paid. I noticed that people said this was a great machine and put 0 or 1 marks out of 5 which brought down the average to 3.8, dummies!

Again, Alesis was ahead of their time. This brainchild of the very early 90's still cuts the mix today. Great easy to understand interface... Easy! I really dig the drum sets this box has to offer... But, if you're looking for newer, fatter type sounds this machine's not for ya...If you're looking for a good reliable piece o' gear at a great price (used) the SR16 is the perfect, cheap little kick ass drum machine.. I find it very similar to the HR 16 drum machines before it.. On the flip side, there's some really cool drum sounds on this baby, don't get me wrong... but there's a ton o'limburger cheese on board too... Ha, get one - it'll last for years! REMEMBER.....Alesis gear lasts!

We use our SR16 live in performance, controlling the start/stop and A?B patterns with a dual foot pedal. When we bought them (we have three for performance, back-up and rehearsal/programming) we expected to be able to obtain additional, downloadable, software - songs and patterns - on cassette. This has not been the case. Anybody out there willing to share/sell customized software?

I've got three SR16s. I worked as a pro drummer for eight years before becoming a pianoentertainer and the SR16's software is brilliantly thought out for live performances. Using the two footswitches in different ways when the machine's stopped and running can achieve great flexibility without resorting to programming whole songs into the machines memory. It's just a belter of machine and I'm scared of not being able to get hold of a spare. The sounds are a bit dated now but that's not the machine's fault.
