the sounds are a little reverb-y for today's music (the snares are probably the best group of sounds), but who said you have to use it the traditional way. i plugged it into my little yamaha su10 sampler and got some pretty interesting things out of it. i'm REALLY impressed by the large variety of sequencing/recording functions and the flexibility. considering the year it was made it's quite brilliant. the manual is easily accessible on www.alesis.com. the interface is not as intuitive as maybe the yamaha drum machines, but with the manual you should have no problems at all. i'm liking it more and more each day.

I bought the SR16 about 8 months ago for a drum notepad for the studio. Great sounds. I generally use Cubase or Cakewalk Pro to do my Rhythm tracks or my trusty old Roland MC80 sequencer for the difficult rhythm tracks. I can use the step recording method on the SR16.
Has anyone tried a MIDI dump of a programmed Drum pattern track into the SR16 that was recorded on say Cakewalk or similar PC sequencing software and retained the velocity settings and instrument names ( Kick, snare, HiHats, etc ) to be played back from the SR16 which can be saved into RAM ?
I want to find if anyone has attempted it before I make an attempt as it would help me to use these patterns as a sketch pad for other projects i do later.

Hi People, I am an English solo guitar act working in Copenhagen at the mo.Ive had my sr 16 for 7 years, its brilliant, ive written all my own user patterns and saved them to mini disk.(digital info) The back up battery failed recently,i fitted a new one but every time i switch off the power it looses the memory,i have to re load the info. from the mini disk every gig. What am i doing wrong? Your not going to say take it to a registered Alesis dealer.........are you. Gary Swift

Very cool drum machine especially for the price! I only wish the reverb could be tweaked other wise I would rate it a 5 star. I like how you can set up your own drum kit and tune it to your desire. Not to hard to program but have patience. It does take practice.
