What other drum-machine is still on production after almost 10 years? None of course. The SR-16 gives you all the sounds and basic features you need to create a solid drum part. Samples and Outputs are clean and accurate, FXs on some samples useful (but a bit dull), 4 Outputs gives some external mixing capabilities, internal sequencer useful as a notepad.
SR-16s though have some problems to handle busy drum parts even if theorically you don't reach the max. allowed. Why? Ask Alesis. System versions are important here.
....A decent piece of hardware and a truly usable instrument...

got mine in 94 for $100 and still love it as a songwriting tool. it's really easy to programs. i dig most of the sounds except the bass drums which don't have the thump i'd like them to have. but hey what do you want for $100. pretty sturdy construction though. ive dropped it several times, spilled beer on it and hammer the buttons pretty hard but its still ticking...id give it a 5 if it had better bass drums.

best drum machine you can buy for under $1000. the boss dr-series drum machines BARELY cover what this little box can do. the best feature is that you can tune the drums, and STACK the sounds!!! really, really, really tight sounds. i really hope they come out with a sr16 mkII or something.

Well by nature I prefer analogue gear, but I decided to purchase this since I needed something more updated. From when I tried it the SR-16 was very user friendly and I got mine new at Sam Ash for $250 so those musicians on the budget would like that.Anyway,it has some pretty good drumkits like Techno,RAP,New Age and Latin, there are 12 velocity sensitve drum pads,it's pretty durable, it saves 100 songs, can "slave",it has 4 audio outs,2 pedal outs,MIDI in/out.Well it's not one of the Roland TR series drum machines or the R-8,but hey,it's cheap, sounds great and is reliable, what more do you need?

The SR-16 is the best drum machine I've owned so far. The step recording feature and some of the low bass drum sounds are very good. I think this was a top of the line drum machine when it came out in 1990. I like what it can do, but I really want to sell it or trade it in for better one. Hooking it up to guitar pedals adds some excitment to this machine.
