BY FAR, ONE OF THE MOST VERSITILE BOXES OUT THERE. I HAVE USED IT FOR EVERYTHING TO SPEED METAL TO HIP HOP, JAZZ, DRUM AND BASS, ETC...ALSO, I'LL RUN THE HI-RAP KICK TO AN AUX OUTPUT AND RUN IT THROUGH MY MIXER WITH A TON OF GAIN AND DISTORTION AND POW !!! IT SOUNDS A BIT LIKE A 909 THATS JUST BEGGING TO BE USED WITH SOME BERLIN SOUNDING TECHNO !!! MY ONLY COMPLAINT WOULD BE THE UN-EDITABLE DRUM SOUNDS, BUT THE POWER & PUNCH THAT THIS BABY PACKS MORE THAN MAKES UP FOR IT !!!

When I decided to buy a eletronic drummer, I looked for Alesis SR-16. YEESSS ! I was right ! It is the best
drum machine I ever had seen in every aspect : sounds, easy to use, price, setting. Its impossible to find a
mistake in this project. It even have two pedal inputs, to start and fill the music ! I RECOMMEND THIS ! FOR EVERYONE !

The greatest cheap drum machine ever. If you're about 909 revival, stay away from the SR-16, but if you want a great sounding, REALLY easy to use, very versiatile drum machine, you should be able to pick up a second hand SR-16 for less than $200 dollars (I did, and it's all I use).
Oh -- the HR-16 mentioned was NOT red, but black. It has more dance oriented sounds than the original HR-16, but most are reprised on the SR-16, and many don't even come close to the quality of the SR-16.
