This unit is incredibly flexible. A drum can be built from up to four samples, each of which can have its own envelope, and which can respond to its own velocity "band". This makes for some very musical sounds.
I needed to make a brush-on-snare "sweep" sound, which wasn't among the 1024 samples. White noise? OK. Velocity to filter? No problem. I spent about an hour tuning this in, and came up with a very usable sound- not perfectly realistic, but fine in the mix. If I need better, I can have it with more time- maybe add another sample for a "contact" at the beginning of the sound...
The kits need to be edited to be useful, in my opinion, and the onboard reverbs are not as thick as needed sometimes, but there are sampled reverb tails which are smooth.
Creating a realistic set takes plenty of work, but if you are willing, there is plenty to work with. I'm disapointed with the mere 7 pan locations- it's hard to locate the drums exactly where I want them in the mix. Of course, the pans and effects can come later if you take the drums direct out.
