THIS IS ONE OF 3 DRUM BRAINS THAT I OWN. THIS IS THE BEST. IT HAS SOOOO MANY SOUNDS. YOU CAN ADD YOUR OWN SOUND SAMPLES WITH SOUNDBRIDGE VIA MIDI. SUPPLIED FREE WITH THE MODULE! YOU CAN ALSO SAVE THEM OFF WITH A FLASH CARD (PURCHASED SEPARATELY). THIS UNIT CAN'T BE BEAT FOR KEEPING YOUR ATTENTION WITH IT'S LONG LIST OF FEATURES. 16 TRIGGER INS! I'M STILL BUILDING UP MY SET OF PADS!

I've been playing natural drums for about 20 years so I'm not familiar with much of the MIDI lingo. This unit sounds and plays great but I had a heck of a time figuring out how to program the darn thing. Several times while setting up the sensitivity I almost drove the thing back to the store. But, embedded deep in the manual I found settings such as Hat Threshold that make this set play real nice. The Hi-Hat volume settings can drive you nuts if your not familiar with MIDI. If you want a great sounding kit the DMPro will work. But, if you have the money, I would go with the Roland because it's easier to use.

VINCENT SIMON a hobbyist user from USA writes:
For some time now I've been doing much research on all of the latest drum modules out there with the intent of purchasing one in the near future. Roland has what I believe to be the best on the market but also the priciest. Yamaha's new DTXTU module is to new to really consider purchasing yet until a review by a magazine comes out. I do know that the Alesis DMPro will not be considered after having a hands on experience of working with it over the past month at a buddies studio. I find the set up for the triggers to be much more troublesome than the D4 & DM5. I also find that with over 1000 onboard sounds that there should be MUCH better snare drum and cymbal samples! If you're a midiot then this would be a good module but if you're a recording drummer then you might want to spend more money for less hassle and better sound and selection! Play on!!

Jeff a part-time user from Pennsylvania writes:
This unit is incredibly flexible. A drum can be built from up to four samples, each of which can have its own envelope, and which can respond to its own velocity "band". This makes for some very musical sounds.

I needed to make a brush-on-snare "sweep" sound, which wasn't among the 1024 samples. White noise? OK. Velocity to filter? No problem. I spent about an hour tuning this in, and came up with a very usable sound- not perfectly realistic, but fine in the mix. If I need better, I can have it with more time- maybe add another sample for a "contact" at the beginning of the sound...

The kits need to be edited to be useful, in my opinion, and the onboard reverbs are not as thick as needed sometimes, but there are sampled reverb tails which are smooth.

Creating a realistic set takes plenty of work, but if you are willing, there is plenty to work with. I'm disapointed with the mere 7 pan locations- it's hard to locate the drums exactly where I want them in the mix. Of course, the pans and effects can come later if you take the drums direct out.

If you want to hear this unit in song, search for SteamPowered at mp3.com.

One more time! Hart Dynamics products are sold through music stores nationwide and are NOT available direct from Mr. Hart. They work great with the DMPRO. Sorry for the mistake.
