I love my 660. It dishes up surprisingly live drum sounds, the effects serve well, and you can mess with it to your hearts content. Double up your kicks for more punch using both a & b banks, as by themselves they can be a little weak. 660 + 424 = cold rockness 5000..

Bryan a hobbyist user from San Francisco writes:
I've had my 660 for about twelve hours now, and I must say, I'm quite impressed. It's not the best of anything -- a mediocre sequencer, some pretty weak samples, no 909 hi hats (!), modest memory banks -- but the sum of its parts is something to behold.

It's a very thoughtfully and elegantly designed machine, to be sure. There's some nice touches for real time pattern switching. With 4 assignable outs, you're really onto something.

Very easy to sketch out ideas, and the velocity sensitive pads really help you create rhythms you might not normally think of (using, say, an x0x style sequencer).

All in all, a good $200 spent for a new box. Wish the 909 kit was more complete so I could sell my Drumstation, but maybe that's a blessing in disguise.

Gots to agree with the fella below: 4 of 5. No batteries, no 909 hats, no x0x option... Besides, that, it's superb.

infosuffer a part-time user from USA writes:
this thing has some very useable sounds for most types of music. even indutrial if you have a distortion pedal and you spend some time tweaking. for some reason though i bought this unit and a sampler a few weeks later. so ill probably be feeding all the sounds to my sampler and selling it eventually. its damn fun to pound on the pads and make beats tho.

buy it if you dont have a sampler for drums or you just want something fun to play with. i wrote a whole little song on it using the synth/slap bass and of course the drum sounds, while on vacation. the individual outs are a cool professioanl feature too. 4/5 cuz it cant run on batteries :]

Gear Junky a hobbyist user from USA writes:
I got this 660 too, and I have an acoustic drumset. Now, can I put drum-triggers on my drums and use the Dr. 660 as the brain? I REALLY would like to do this! Please help! Thanx in advance.

P.S. Please e-mail me, if you have info.

Oops, just realized that this is a REVIEW and not just a discussion. The sounds of this box seem real nice, I like the "room" set, very realistic for a drum-machine. I only paid $200!
