I bought it and fell in love. Its an easy to use, good sounding box. Plenty of fx. Great sequencer. Good sound manipulation for a beat-box. A word of advice to those hoping to use it for semi/pro applications; this box has NO BASS END. All the kicks sound great until you compare them to the kicks you can get out of, say, a sampler. This is a great, great shame because all the other sounds rock. The solution? Sample the bejesus out of it and sell it. By the way, if you spend $600 on this thing you're nuts. I got mine for $300, 3 years ago!!!!

A very nice machine. I like to play it using the pads a lot, but programming is good too. If you can get a TR-505 for cheap, do it! It makes an AWESOME realtime controller/sequencer for the DR660! I like the Jazz kits a lot. Make them super fat by adding some ambience under them in bank B. I have made kits that sound pretty damn close to real drums but there are plenty of "techno"-ish drums sounds too. Editing is easy and very creative. By layering two sounds together plus editing them you can create LOTS of new sounds. This unit also sounds real good through an overdrive pedal for Digital Hardcore stuff. Try running it through Boss's ODB-3 for a good example.

I had my DR-660 for a couple of years now, and I love it, I wish there was a way to free up more memory though, and more control over Midi implementation, overall this has been an awesome machine!

turtle a professional user from united states of america writes:
the 660 is THE "small sound" drum machine. 808ish, cr78ish, dr110ish, 606ish, and dr55ish sounds. use the chorus to get the metallic sound on the hats, and the reverb/delay is pretty clean. also, you just cant beat this much bad ass beat in one little box. the only thing i dont like is that the 660 doesn't have 909 hats, damn! if you want small acid/electro/trance drum sounds, buy one.
