this is a box aimed at mainly dance music. i give it a 5 rating, not because i think it is the best synth in the world, but because it is one of the best among its class. considering it is under $380, this is a quality instrument. there are many kits, and they are all quite decent. i expected all the sounds to be low quality, but i was wrong (although there is an above average noise level). the filters are digital sounding, but fun nontheless (i love the super-cool flanger). one gripe i have is the pads. simply said, they suck. hook it up to a velocity sensetive keyboard, and you are set. its sequencer only has 3 tracks, but they are plenty. keep in mind this is not a workstation like a mc-303 or 505. it is meant to be used for its drums, basses, and one external track from a synth. hook this up to a good synth (like a jp-8000 or nord lead) and u have a very good setup. step recording is easy, as is real-time. the roll feature is also very cool. i treat all my gear with the most care, so i can's say how durable it is. it doesn't come with an ac adapter, so buy one with it. it eats up battery super-fast. also, it has rca line outs, not 1/4" plugs. beware of that. the pre-sets are just there to show you what it can do. no one uses them anyway... and it is super easy to make your own stuff. i love this little box...

and me and my "dr groove" lived happily ever after

I was really disappointed with this machine. The outputs are really weak, and the noise level is incredibly high. Not only is there a constant whiny hiss coming out of it, but there's some extra noise that gets gated well after a sound fades out. The filters is cool, but if you're looking for a smooth analog filter, you won't find it here. The filter is VERY obviously digital and you can hear each stairstep. It definitely has some great sounds, but the tidal wave of noise that came out of the thing made it useless for me. I took it back.

i like it a lot - but beewarez - there are bugs in the little buggers programing - when i was useing the grovefunktion - the user patterns went to another planet and i had to do a factory reset of the patterns to be able to get in touch with the user patterns again - everything else was working but when you turned the dial to user i went blank and restarted - and when i tried to acces the patterns by playing a song - i got stuck - bad debugging roland !!! - so here i sit with the kits- but the patterns are gone . . . .

being of sound mind, naturally the ad line "dr-202. block-rockin drum machine" turned me off, and i, though already having half of this boss xx-202 combo, was totally uninterested in it.

played with one the other day at wanker center (guitar center is what i gather they're supposed to be called) and man oh man did i misjudge it.

i mean, the sounds sound appropriately categorized, and downright bland if used in their intended context, but what if dnb drum sounds are used to make something completely different?

sounds great. some pretty convincing acoustic drums in there, even.

the effects are good. this is boss we're talking about, y'know?

will it stop you from digging thru crates for more breaks? prolly not. but what will? a lawsuit?

oh, and let me tell you about the bass.

it's good. good for the intended styles, great for something original.

i wouldn't buy one new, but shit, i wouldn't buy underwear new.

no wait, that's pushing it.
