even the more expensive dr-660 and dr-770 dont' have such big sounds. and they look ugly. no real-time knobs. i got this for about $130. i'm never going to sell this.

Just got it. Punchy drums. solid snare haven't had time yet to do much. Break beat 12 inches are cool and shit....but finding something that works for you is even better. At $200..cant beat it.

I am starting to pick back-up self-production. I am in MC, and I wanted to make good trunck rattlin' beats. It be nice to have a machine that had some good accompaniment instruments too, but right now I really only concerned with the drum sound. About 8 years ago my brother bought I DR-550, and I got pretty decent with that. Now, I want something with more ability without spending a grand-middle shelf equiptment. Right now, I in line to get a DR-5, DR-220, or a Roland R-8. I've been surfin' all weekend getting very specification info on each, and user insight sites, and as you probably guessed, I've gotten mixed reviews. Is there anybody out there that has personally used each of these machines, understands my genre, and my limited experience (my passion outweighs my experience)who can recommend which purchase I should make. Help?

This machine, is very user friendly. The beats are very fat and it can resinate some heavy bass. I have not had a high hiss level like some users. It rocks for rap beats and dance.

I really recommend this drum machine. the sounds are great and punchy. the bassy sounds a bit better than the higher-end ones, although you can EQ it on a mixer. you can't really find knobs on most other drum machines of this price. although i find the filter resolution a bit choppy, it's got a real nice resonance and can produce some awesome basses. the low boost makes all the difference. the drum sounds are quite editable. with all the knobs and the easy interface it's one fun box. i've played with a few drum machines in the past, interms of sounds i actually think this one is pretty fat. even the more expensive dr-660 and dr-770 dont' have such big sounds. and they look ugly. no real-time knobs. i got this for about $130. i'm never going to sell this.
