The only thing this machine has going for it are basses some of the sines are nice and the realtime effects controls are all right other than that the dr. 202 is a piece of junk it has all these cheesey ass presets that no one who is serious about making music would use the snares suck and the bass drums have no knock to them whatsoever like most other Roland products this is a gimicky piece of shit and is not worth the money no one but techno producers use preset drums now anyway and even for that this machine sucks it is also imposible to sequence you have to link every sequence together manualy this takes forever and the one external track for sequencing is useless I'm probably going to sample the bass sounds and sell mine.

This was the first beat box I owned . I ll say that if your starting out its not that bad but when you want to get down and put somthing on CD,LP,Tape the lack of 1/4 jacks really comes back to bite you,I never thought it would matter but it does the noise level is way to much hisss .It looks like some people arnt having this problem maybe its the power supply or a problem with some of the DR202s that does not effect the others...If anyone has a idea contact me. Ive never used it with batteries so Im not sure what the noise problem is.. I just know its the only thing that holds the DR202 back..By the way the sounds are great and the thing is easy to use... Right now I am looking to replace it with somthing simalar but without the noise problem so Ill go with 1/4 instead of RCA for that sems to be the only reason for the noise. alot of good stuff traped in a ugly noisy rca jacked box. If it wasent for the noise this would rate a 4or5 ....

Pro's:

- looks fairly cool - has some quite intuitive controls - for me: sends Roland-style NRP's -> filter controls work with a SC-55, too, etc. - 3-track sequencer is OK

Con's:

- no display backlight - fairly high noise level in the sounds as well as overall - software has some ugly bugs :-( - it's a plastic box

I bought it quite cheap, but I'm still disappointed. Why can't anyone produce a machine somehow like this one with a GOOD sound quality and a decent software? Also, I'd really appreciate tougher hardware, and some LIGHT for the display. It's probably impossible to use this machine on stage.

This is one of the best bargains out there bar none! I have had more fun with this puppy than several pieces of gear costing $1000 and more. Still one of the coolest deals you can pull off. Simply cannot lose with DR-202. Used prices are dirt cheap! I may get another.
