The DR-202 has a cool 3-part sequencer that is really tight for minimal type grooves. The drums are super and the bass sounds full. If you hooked this up with an ER-1 youd be cookin!! btw, mine is quiet. :)

i'm wondering if this machine would be cool to use just as a sequencer. im not into all this techno rave shit, id be using it to make some skratch beats, electro type shit. would this suffice? im also looking into getting one of the korg electribe joints. which would be better, DR 202 or ER 1? anything would be awes. thanks

well, my first drumcomputer/groovebox-whatever...

got it for about 320 EUR and have benn using it for a year now. i play in a band and we do some kind of trip-hop/drum'n'bass/electropop-stuff. it's works perfectly for that. you can not only use the preset sounds but also change their pitch (awful!!), cutoff, resonance, decay, reverb send and flanger send, as well as pan and volume. one thing i like is the realtime control: you simply pick one intrument (or all at once), turn up the resonance and tweak the filter-knob...great!!!

i'll give it a five, because it really does everything i need. probably the most useful piece of equipment i ever bought.

welps, this is my first drum machine/bass synth. I bought it for the drum machine, but there's some damn rad basses on here, I wonder if I can hook this midi to a keyboard and play them with a larger range? if not, this thing still rawks my sawks. lets discuss pros and cons bads - 1) No 1/4 line out, WTF?!? 2) What the hell is that hissing noise? 3) No midi through? 4) No velocity sensitive pads? although I really don't care that much, it COULD be a problem.

goods-

1) #1 is the drums, very good 808 & 909 samples, but hell its got a bunch of other great shyt on there too 2) effects, they can give you lots of diversity in a song, the decay is kinda lame, but that makes it cool sounding. 3) Simplicity, the manual makes this soooo easy, you'll be making your own songs in a couple of hours, or at least I did. 4) batteries!

I would consider this a very serious machine if roland would fix the bads, for around 200 bux used I'm giving it a 4 out of 5

1st of all, if you don't have creativity then any equiptment you have sucks. now having said that, this is excellent for beginners or pros(remember imagination)all of the sounds in this machine are tweakable so it in actuallity has more than 256 sounds. the sequencing is great and very simplistic for a machine in this price range. i have a ton of phat ass hip-hop/r&b/techno loops that ive done on this machine. the song mode isnt as hard as it looks. however you will need a descent samlper to aid in your music productions because this machine though good, is limited to the internal sounds. if you need tips/help on this machine, holla!!! ive mastered this thing.
