I bought my DR-202 over the summer so I could have some good analog drum sounds. I'm happy with it, myself. The TR-909 kit sounds very cool, as does the TR-808. Some of the other kits are very nice as well, such as the techno, house, jazz, and standard kits.
The sequencer seems rather nice, though it's a bit hard to get a house rhythm in.
Two thing I don't like about it: One, the snares aren't my favorite. I would have liked to see more "fat" snares, and ones that have more of that "snare" sound. Also, I can't seem to get how to select the drum kit using a MIDI message from my computer. I've always got to do it by hand. How do I do this?

i think the worst choice boss/roland/whatever made in marketing was trying to target the trendy rave/hippy/whatever market. although they are a huge part of the population with tons of spare cash, it really seems to hurt the music as a whole and this message board. it seems quite obvious to me most if not all of the misfortune writen about on this page comes from stupidity that is probably a result of drug use. if you want to be the groovinest block rockin hippie around, just get record players. DJ druged types seem to still find a challange in using a household electronic appliance, but not so many buttons to confuse your little brain. and it seems to attract the drug using raver chickie mamas just as well. but for those of us who have become neuter, and no longer care about performing the reproductive act, this sounds good with some casio vl-tone or rapman and distortion to taste. it makes me happy. and as for the hiss, ive never noticed it. but im sure as soon as soon as drum machines dont ever hum anymore, you'll miss it. just check out the 'lp noise' sample on the dr202. did you ever notice that although recording and music technology have improved so much since music has become a commodity, but the creativity and music itself just keep getting worse and worse? this machine is truly a marvel of modern consumer music devices. dont blame it. if you hate it so much, open it up and take some pots and a heating iron to it. it will either break or sound amazing. i got a second one free and tried it out. i never play my straight one anymore but would go insane if i were ever without as i seem to try new modifications regularly. i hate everyone. i wish i were as stupid as you. please teach me how.

Why is it when I insert the memory card bank C/D doesn't work. The Card is a smart media, 3v, 16mb like required. does anyone know how to work this feature cause I lost my Instructions. Please email me thanks

i probably got the 202 a year ago and it has been a pretty good drum machine... i first bought the dr-220 mk II but returned it because there was no midi out and i thought the 202 would serve me a little better... i was right. the ability to tweak the sounds with the knobs is great, the delay is pretty useful and the sounds are nice. the volume definatly could be a bit louder, if your not running it through a mixer or anything to boost the signal its kind of tough to get it to sound ok with other modules.. but thats ok. the bass sounds and the external track also come in handy when programming songs. im very happy with my purchase.

hi wow it sounds to me like people really dis this machine!
i am a film maker but really want to explore music. I have friends that are doing music all the time and have for the last 10 months been really curious of the head space. i dont know really the first thing about music i know what i like trip hop deep drum and basss so i bought a dr 202 and it's dope has that carl cox chicago miniminalst feel...
