I use the Dr.202. i think it's great. i don't use effects much so i can't hate on that. One problem i had was that the buttons will double. If you suck at making beats then this isn't your machine. Your better off with the dr.303.

all i do is take a keyboard and add melody. if you don't like it, don't hate, just get something else.

I've had this unit for 5 years and it kicks ass. I don't understand how you can say, "FUCK presets" and then complain about the sounds? Sounds like you're RELYING on the machine to create for you? hmmm?

Any good sound designer can take the crappiest sound and make it tight as shit, if you're really creative.

This unit is great for beginners looking to start out and it has some great sounds to mess with, eventhough alot of the sounds sound generic now. But if you're any good, it won't matter because you'll be able to create new ones!

The only drawback is the the RCA outs, they should of made it 1/4" for easier live performance. But that's why Radio Shack stays in business...

Can Somebody tell me id the Boss DR-202 has any filters to tweak? How do you use it to sequence an external synth?

i can't say much about this box that hasn't already been said. here's my opinion on the box though: the presets suck, the samples are mediocre, and the programming is a pain in the butt. I'm comparing it to my korg electribe Sx-1, which might be a step above it anyways, but proportionally, the korg is still better. (all of the electribes are, in my opinion.) the LP filter for the parts acts kinda weird... apparently the default/dry positions for decay, cutoff and reso are in the middle?! i found that rather unconventional and confusing. almost like they were joking or trying to hide something. whatever.

the good things about this box: good for beginners who are willing to put up with the interface, (interface has too many buttons and not enough knobs). another cool thing is that it can run on batteries, so if you're away from civilization then you can still jam with headphones. two more good things: SOME of the sounds can actually be phenomenal if you know how to process them. For example, i recorded a breakbeat onto my comp, then added tons of reverb and compression, rendered that. took that loop and sliced it up, rewrote a breakbeat and then tweaked a highpass filter whilst playing... it was pretty hot. #2: has midi, so programming can be completely avoided and you can just send it note signals from a sequencer or computer.

I got almost no use out of this device and plan to sell it.

MD a part-time user from US writes:
The Dr Groove is a very useable box....if...you are creative. It gives you basic tones and wave forms....FUCK presets. Whoever programmed those presets I want your job. The only thing that gets in the way (besides wasted space on lame presets) is the limited quality of the "cutoff" "resonance" and "delay" realtime filters. And the inability to split a drum and bass part once they are recorded into a pattern. Other than those things off the top of my head I cant think of anything more you would want if you are wanting to get your feet wet in electronic music production. I have created 6 albums on the box and I have had it for 3 years. Every album and even every song is different. This box is simple enough for you not to have to worry too much about how it works and just focus on being creative. Check out demos of my first album "is there a doctor in the house!" at www.rabidmindrecords.com
