The DR 202 is a cool machine with great versatility, but you will want to obtain the manual for it for sure. Roland also makes a video for it. Many features on the DR 202 are not self-evident, and the operation is very methodical. Get the manual, take it step by step and you will be pumpin out some solid tracks with confidence.

I've had this thing for a couple of years now and must say... it's pretty cool. I played with it for awhile, but then sold it to a friend of mine. A few months later, though, I just had to buy it back from him. Since then, I've been really learning it inside and out. My favorite thing about it is that it's really nice to jam live with. I just throw down a few patterns, midi it to my An1x, and go off. One thing that's really annoying, though, and this applies to most pieces of gear anyway, is that you can't erase the factory preset crap patterns. They're fun to look at and all... to see how they were made.. but hey! This is my box! Why can't I decide what's on it?

The Dr 202 rocks!! Its so nice and small and yet it packs a powerful punch. Great drums and bass is good too. Lots of fun and easy to use. Great value!

I dont know why people are knocking this machine so much. I think its brilliant its just people arnt pushing it to its limits. I've heard the 202 being used on many a professional recording. I think its great for creating minimal techno tracks. I have it linked to a juno 106 and to my sequencer on my computer Sometimes when possible I borrow my mates TB 303 and i'll admit when comparing 303 sounds with the original there not quite there but you can get pretty damn close twiddling that resonance and cutoff knob and adding a touch of reverb and flange. Its like any equipment when I get it I stuff the manual and make it mine by getting right inside to see how it works. Then I check the manual and add the instructions they forgot to put in.

i have had the dr groove for the last year now and sadly when i bought it there were no instructions with it. i have gone as far as i can with it without instructions and now i am trying to find a way of getting these. if anyone out there knows how i can get these, please mail me at the above address with the relevant info. as for what i think of it, it's fantastic in that i have gone so far without instructions and i know that there is so much more that i will be able to do when i get them. i was going to buy a differant piece of equipment to start with but this was reccommended to me and i can see why. it does, at first use and look , seem quite basic but once you get the hang of it, you discover all its hidden benefits and we have been using it in clubs and at parties since then. it has always worked well on its own ,with decks or any software program/external eqiupment you hook it up to.
