Got one (used to have 2). These are great. Heaps of fun to use and one of the must cutting claps and hats you'll find anywhere.

woooo. I once had a RZ-1 and now I want it back! It was a Mod one; 3 digi switches (2-1-0) for different Styles (Latin etc) and Ass-Kickin BS-Drums. luckily I recorded enough Intos on 4-Track; so my Samples are still alive. I used to pre-cut the Samples on my Mac with Sound Edit (1992) so I could pre-fix the Samples-Sizes (0.2 sec.) and tranfered them via Audio to my RZ-1. BIG BEATz!!! anyone selling one?? mail me!!

This machine has fat plastic pads for pounding and it fits in well with my set up, I have used/owned several drum machines- Sequential drumtracks, yamaha, korg,Emu sp12 etc. The sounds are punchy and fill out a mix nicely, the sample pads are a cool extra. This one will be one of those that 'suddenly' become popular after many of the remaing ones either wear out or fade back into the garage...They have been featured in several hit mixes and these things are way retro. I like the unrealistic sounds! If I wanted real drums I would fetch a drummer and some drums...It has heavy duty features and is extremely durable as well as functional. The independent sliders and outputs are great too.I give this puppy a fat 5.

Very nasty sounding wee box... sounds like it belongs on the Ghostbusters soundtrack. The kick, snare, and hi-hats are pretty unusable, but the claps, cowbell and toms sound quite nice for what they are. The amount of sampling time is almost laughable but infinately useful once you get used to making sounds that are .2 seconds long.
The individual outs and volumes are a blessing.
Programming is a breeze, but I havent tried saving samples out/loading them in because of that weird-ass plug they have on the back. I read somewhere that you could mod this to a jack plug and just dump them to audio cassette -- anybody tried this?
Gets a three. Bad points: fundamental preset sounds are rubbish; very fiddly save/load technique for samples. Good points: you can sample; individual outs and volumes for each sound, easy programming, midi in/out/thru
Actually that's about a 3.5

I absolutley love this drum machine!! It sure is a perfect companion to the tr-909. The reason i like it so much is for it's noises, I love the clap, hi-hats and ride cymbal, they really cut through the mix. Ok, the kick drum does sound a bit like someone hitting the bottom of a tupperware box but it's still useful! After hearing it on various records (work that mutherf**cker - steve poindexter, dbx and various hardfloor trax)I had to find out what those drum sounds where from, and when i did i persuaded one of my friends to buy one because i did'nt have any cash. so he did get one and i used it extensivly for about a year and a half, but now he's moved away and took it with him!! Anyone selling one?
