I bought a RZ1 for 90 dollars, probably the best piece of gear I could get for that price, unfortunately a lot of people dont know much about this machine, I really like the claps and the kicks..I am into producing techno, so they sound pretty good for something so cheap, the cowbell and crash sound terrible, hi-hats are pretty good though..the 4 sampling pads are really interesting, although the sampling time is very limited, you can link samples and or/ sample stuff directly through the input, I have sampled everything from 909 kicks to synth riffs, and I get the best effects when all the sample banks are used ..if you find one for less than 100 dollars, dont hesitate, it will be worth it

Well I appear to be the winner thus far. I saw one at a garage sale for $20.00. One of the Toms didn't work, so I talked him down to $15.00. I took it home and just beat the shit out of it, and now it works great. Everything you hear on the House Music classic "Work That Mother Fucker" came out of this box. The sampling is very lo-fi, but what would you expect from Casio? I use to drool over this in a music store in the late 80's. I think it was about $500.00 at the time. It's definately not worth any more than $100.00. The high hats are the shit. I didn't have a manual and figured everything out within 30 minute.s

I just replaced the battery and i'm sooooo happy!!! now it retains all of the stuff i program, AND it saves the samples!!!! it only took me about 15 min. and $6 to do it. get a radio shack lithium battery (CR2032) and a lithium battery holder( i forgot the part number, but it holds 20mm batteries...). open it up. unscrew the bottom board. de-solder the current battery holder from the board. get the holes clear. get a small screw driver and clear out the holes. match the polarity on the lithium battery holder with the board. place it (it will hang off the edge of the board a bit...you may need to SLIGHTLY bend one of the pins...). it should sit completely flat with the board. now solder the pins (clip off the extra pin that doesn't go into the board...) put in a fresh battery, and begin creating tight tracks!

Nice gritty sound. If you are tired of hearing the same roland stuff over and over again, get this box! I tested it with my 707 & 505, and it has a distinct sound. the hats are good as well as the bd/sd. the ride is preety cool too. the unit provides a good amount of flexibility in the mixer section and the outputs. i would chose to use this over my 707, 505 any day. one thing, $100 is the HIGH PRICE. i would not pay that unless it was in perfect condition, with the original box, packaging, manuals, and it was just absolutly immaculate!!! don't go over $50. i going to try to put a new battery in, it would greatly help to be able to save stuff on board. if you are selling one, EMAIL ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i would love to have another one.

Ok. I bought this machine for 180 $ (Ripoff!). At first I was really dissapointed. I thought that the sounds would be much more electronic. When I realised that it's sounds exactly as my 707, I banged my head against the wall. However i replaced the samples with some good drum sounds, but first after a month or so I really started to play with it. And whoa! Suddenly it sounded great. Using a kick sample, a cabass sample and the hihat and clap, I was making a Daft Punk hit!. Works great with Midi and sampling is very easy. Just hold down the sampling button and then the sample number (you can link 1-2 3-4 and 1-4) play the sound and you got your sample.
The bad thing with this drummachine is that you cant turn off the click when your recording. Or can you? If anybody know how to do this please mail me. Cus then I can use this sucker live!!.
Oh. by the way. Using openhihat on all 16 beats, mixing mute and normal on some of the beats sounds cool. And ofcourse if you think it all sounds crap whatever you do, use some vocoder or distorsion (always ok).
