Bill Spiropoulos a hobbyist user from USA writes:
As with many others, this was my very first keyboard, which I got for Xmas when I was about 12. I literally taught myself to play keyboards on this little hunk of plastic, and back then I thought it was the greatest thing. I wore the thing out (literally--some keys are stuck on with black tape!) trying to get every possible sound I could out of it. Obviously I used the sampler mor ethan anything, and did some quite funky things with it. One neat trick I discovered was to sample a *very* brief sound, like a fingersnap, and set the sample to repeat, creating a faux pulse wave, and also to things like vocal "aaah"s and guitar chords. Now that I've been around many, much nicer keybs, I realize that the SK1 was a kinda crappy little toy sampler, but it was like a big, sticky glob of candy for my imagination, not to mention an accessible first instrument. Three thumbs up.

erik a hobbyist user from USA writes:
i just picked up my first one in a pawn shop. i paid $25 but it is mint. came with adapter ......and carrying case? well, i do like the sampler. it seems like i've heard the tone "human voices" on a few 80's records. considering how inexpensive it is, i don't see why i would ever sell it. the cheese factor makes this board lovable.

David Waldman a hobbyist user from USA already writes:
So cheesy, it's endearing. Surprising little features like portamento and

vibrato available simultaneously. Can use sample as "rhythm." Lighten up!

It's meant to be a toy, and it's a very fun one! Love to run mine through

my Synthi AKS...5/5 for PHUN!

carl-mikael altemarx a hobbyist user from sweden writes:
yes yes. my opinion of this synth is that it is probably the best samplers ever.

affordable, at 80 swedish kronor or 11-12$, and a with nice interface and the most

system controlled evil drum kit ever heard, it makes it a most brilliant synth for

aswell the pro or the amateur musician. the sampler function itself is worth

mentioning because of the high quality of the sound and the glorious size of

the memory. also an ideal machine to produce dnb or gabber with.

This is such a great thing !!

It's so great i even dedicated a page just for the sk-1 the adress is:

people.a2000.nl/jdegans/casio_sk-1.htm (listen to the realaudiofile !!)

The sound quality is so bad it sounds good....

I even found a way to trigger it in my midi setup and made a track with the

disco loop.
