I got my little tiny SK-1 when I was 8 or 9, and I am still using it frequently today. It may be tiny, but it has a lot of really neat features in it, and its price was certainly reasonable. I think that Casio discontinued the SK line, so that makes my little baby keyboard even nearer and dearer to my heart. *sigh*

Yo, the SK1 is the most fun for its size and price (got mine for 10 bucks) it provides hours of fun for all and the sound is greatly enhanced with liberal doses of alcohol etc... Check out that guy on the net who circut bent his... mine is now bent as well and it is now the living acid machine. SK-1 Rules!!

You got it wrong in two places: maximum polyphony is 4, not 1, and the keyboard
doesn't respond to velocity. If you're not satisfied with the sounds (who is?), then
have a look at "Circuit Bending and Living Instruments" on windworld.com/emi/ghazala.htm -
this guy explains how to rearrange the circuit so as to get more interesting albeit weird
sounds.

This keyboard is awesome. I've had mine since I was like 11, so it definately has the hard core nostalgia factor. I've used it for texture samples like static, distortion, etc. and for live drum samples. It has the best flute sound--well it doesn't exactly sound like a flute, but I've used it on like a million songs and I still love it. Anyway, the SK-1 is also just fun to freak out on.

Overall and awesome little toy, the envelope section is fun and cheezy to apply on either the sample or the 8 instrument/sounds onboard. A little tricky at first but a lot of fun if u can find one for a small amount of money $5-30 usually, Check Goodwill/Value Village they're teaming with weird stuff sometimes. Also its got a 1/8th output on it so its great to pop into a distortion pedal then into an amp or whatever for a full sound to it. Hopefully myself or someone else will do some small modifications to it, the only one that has been done is a large one to midify it and put it into a modular style really. If u see one, get it! Its weird and quirky and may be worth $$$ in a decade or so like the tb303
