Fairlight series III is still the best sounding sampler out there! It will not be long when people will re-discover it just like they did analogs...and then...watch out! The price will go to up the roof! If you can find one for a decent price, grab it! You won't be sorry!

A marvel of the twenieth century:Like something straight out of a sci-fi movie.

I remember trying to create (for hours on end)huge ripping sounds, flanged, phased, echoed, with my producer, by ripping a sheet of paper in front of the mike.

I still love the massive orchestral soundscapes that can be created and still experiment today. I also love the monitor, that was of courseat the time destined to be a failure.

David Morley from Germany writes:
<<Regarding the person who wants Series III samples: From what I know, the Series III didn't have as distinctive of a sample set as the Series IIx. And you can buy a CD of All IIx samples from ProRec in the states. (There are other sources too....) >>

The library is completely different! Orchestral strings are very much unique to the serieIII. Of course they included series II samples, but the series III library is immense and amazingly samples (they invested a lot of time and money to make them)

I've only had my Series III for a few days but can already say that you haven't played a sampler until you've played a Fairlight Series III.

I use a rev 11.39 series III/mfxII and is pretty much fully loaded.I bought my machine six years ago after a guy called Chris Newman <ex pet shop boys programmer>sourced one for me.<At the time it was a lowly rev 5.34 and pre wave super>. I put together a library of most of its sounds on dat but these were angled more towards the electronic stuff and material derived from the additive synth on the machine.I think once you own a cmi its very hard to use anything else.I don,t own the machine it owns me!
