Graham Johnson a part time user from UK writes:
I used to work with a guy selling the CMI for Syco Systems. Syco was part owned by Peter Gabriel (Shock the Monkey being the first track he used the Fairlight in). We sold the series III in the UK for around sixty five thousand pounds. Even more spooky is the fact I still use one (the original Syco demo machine). To this day the Fairlight still offers the best samples. Thanks for a shit hot site, the photo of the Fairlight is great, straight out of the brochure - love it. Zip. Submitted again with the correct score

Peter Williams a professional user from England writes:
I was one of those people who bought a CMI III from SYCO systems in London! I have yet to find a better sampler. My system is now at REV9.34 with the 24 output router which transforms the system. Shortly I hope to upgrade it to MFXII specification which gives it the best direct to disk recording/editing interface that there is. You just don't know what your missing in samplers untill you use one! I use a Starr Labs ZTAR guitar style MIDI controller to get the best out of the system. Mars Kelly should do the same and keep his CMI.

Marcin Roguski a part time user from Poland writes:
Wow, when I first managed to 'touch' this thing, it was a shock for me (Jul '91)

The thing was CMI III ,2MB ,16 cards, 11000 DM. It was my friend's maschine :I remember :we made few Native American songs samples (I remember that he spent three hours finding out how it works and how to do it). Next we combined it string section, 'SarahIIx' and 'MayaChoir' and some deep percussion sounds.

I've never made anything like this after that (My friend sold it few weeks later to buy a car).

Does somebody have those (Maya and Sarah) samples, I will be glad if he could send them to me.Thanks

James Pinker a professional user from NZ writes:
CMI III is still the best sounding sampler on earth.

We use it all the time with a II and an MFX @ and MFX 3.

Excellent. Interested in talking to other users to

investigate Windows interface. Please write.
