I bought my X5 from Ebay for around three bills and it came with the manual, a canvas bag and a footswitch. I already have an X2 so I really enjoyed the fact that it's basic setup is exactly like the X2 without the sequencer. What I like about it, compared to my X2, is its portability. In the bag, it's light as a feather on my shoulder and all the accessories I need can fit right in the bag pockets. I keep it in the bag normally and if I get the opportunity to go play with someone on short notice, it's always ready to go. What I don't like are some of the piano sounds (especially the A01 patch), which are not nearly as acoustic as the ones on the X2. I bought this as a portable alternative to the X2 and, considering what I paid, I'm ecstatic about it.

At the time of realese it was a bit expensive at 799 but I stil got one anyway, as I was totaly astounded by the big phat sounds it produced. The piano is much to be desired but I felt it matched well with the feel of the keyboard keys and responce. It would have been nice to have a resonance parameter to adjust, but cuttoff frequency was avalible. The strings was and still is the best Iv heard, and as well as the Combi phatt sounds makes this worth evey penny.
If you are breaking away from a home keyboard or wish to expand your setup you cant go wrong by getting a Korg X5 reflecting its very low current price and sound quality.

I have a lot of experience with synths around this price and Korg have put a lot of effort into this one. Bottom of the range it may be but it still sounds nice and the keyboard has a good feel. So much so that I will keep this synth and buy a new sound module rather than update the synth itself.

I've been pretty happy with my Korg X5..It's great for live performance or sequencing..and it has done me fairly well as my primary workhorse..Once you get past the beginner stages and really want to sound phat, it's a little limiting...I agree with everyone else, yes the piano sucks and the strings sound right out of enya. To the contrary of my other fellow users, I kind of dig the on-board effects processer, and some of the drum sounds I even like better than many of my drum modules...If you're a begginner make the purchase..if you're a veteran..look elsewhere.

Ahhh...I remember my little X5! It's got some absolutely beautiful string and pad sounds in it. Great board for single mode operation via midi in a good studio setup but useless when in multimode since with only two FX processors your once-beautiful voices become thin and shitty. No resonant filters make it limiting, but this board is more a general good-quality soundset than something that you would use for dance, etc. The cutoff is pretty lame, too. If you're after a basic board with fantastically-big-and-warm (yes, WARM!) pads and strings then this machine will bring a smile to your face. Crap for lead sounds. Bloody total crap for drums. No machine is that good at everything, though and with the relatively cheap used price of the X5 your can't go wrong. Progamming is very very simple (both in terms of operation and in what you can do with it!). The X5D is identical apart from a few more wave samples.
