coolest mono i played up to now. the filters are not really 'fat', but they sure are funky, set the wheel to control 1 of the filter cutoff, and you got some funky stuff going.

the filters are really organic, the hpf is really nasal, combined with the good amt of lpf, you can come up with the freshest clavs and human speech tones.

the ring mod is a cool addition, smooth bell type tones.

the pitch to cv is really finicky, but you can come up with decent tracking from a synth.

i love it...ill give a 4 since it does'nt have midi.

Markku a hobbyist user from Finland writes:
I sold mine years ago and I must admit, I miss it, really! Patchability great, very clear user interface(as it is called nowadays...), great sound source, keeps in tune!! Although the filters are 2-pole, you can crank both to self-oscillate, which, I think, this kind of filters won't usually do! Minor gripe: the wheel is too loose, not good for exact pitch bends.

excellent patchable synth with great creative potential!very good sound(really fat...).you will use it better only when you connect it with other modular/patchable synthesizers.one of my favourite analogs!!!

Anyone complaining about the MS20 must be or deaf or *!*'("* (fill in four yourself) This machine is extremely reliable and stable. I never have to tune it. (And I use it live...) It sounds absolutely great and the hardware is very very decent. Everybody who heard it asked me what it was. I'm not the man to talk about filters and stuff but I have heard lots of other analogs and the MS20 stands out in grittyness. The filter sounds thinny but aggressive and very spiky. There's always lotsa fuss going around about "fat" filters and so on but everyone who uses those "fat" filters all the time is making pretty boring music I think.

You really can get creative with an MS20 and it surely beats the hell out of many others. The Ring Mod is great. The patching thing is NOT intuitive and difficult but some experimenting gives awesome results.

If you're really into analog synthesis, use an MS20 to learn it. (Or a Nord Modular)
