This is one of the all-time great analog synths! For unpredictable noise, it can't be beat. The Envelope Follower/External Signal Processor opens up a lot of capabilities for processing and other unusual applications. And the patch bay allows for a number of unusual options - I've frequently used it for footswitch/pedal-controlled noises while playing another instrument with my hands.

a friend received the ms-20 from an old player in exchange for some gardening work. my friend couldn't get any sounds out of it and gave it to me. i guess it isn't fair that i got it for nothing, and didn't tell my ignorant friend of it's insurmountable worth or of this web site.

The MS20 is a wicked little synth - the bottom end it a little bit light but the filters really scream. Both the HPF and LPF can self oscillate...and the synth has a real nasty grungey sound that you dont find too often. The patchbay is nice too but it's not a true modular and some of the signal path is fixed. It quite a stable synth given its age and seems to be very reliable. One drawback is having only one true envelope generator {ADSR). The ring mod is a bit basic too. But overall its brilliant.
