Well it's not strictly true that it's 100% patchable - for instance you can clock the LFO or

control PWM or control envelope parameters. But it is a GREAT synth and the fact that it's 'normalled' so you can make sound

without a bunch of patch leads is a big plus. I LOVE mine too.

This is THE analogue synth among analogue synths. I LOVE IT! _Fat_ sounds and 100% patchable. Could it get better?

After using the MS-20 for twelve or thirteen years I have to say that this is one of the best analogue synthesizers ever made. Its practically perfect. After youve learned how the patchbay works you just sit patching for a year or so before it starts to really sound good.

In the band I play we use two MS-20:s and often hook them up to eachother for more fun. The results when you can expand the MS-20 with another is quite exiting.

Moreover it has a signal input which allows it to be controlled from another source. I mostly use a Casio FZ-1 and because of that I dont need any midiinterface - I can control the MS-20 without midi and still use Cubase. This can be quite hard to accomplish cause the signal input is quite strange and Ive figured out that some sounds works better than others. Try to use a sawtooth wave and as clean as possible! With a little thinking you can also get the release to work this way. Ive just bought a Kenton Pro 4 so I dont use this kind of connection anymore, but I did for a couple of years and its really working. I also have to say that if youre looking for analogue drumsounds, this is the machine to have! I just love those Simmondssounds but theyre better if you do them on a MS-20.

The definitive poor man`s modular, loadsa patching (via a rather confusing patchbay), two simultaneous filters (lo AND hi) both with screaming resonance and an excellent grungy sound when the oscillators overdrive the mixer/filter. Prices are rising and rising so grab one now!, more use for SFX and Basses than as a lead synth (believe it or not the PWM equipped MS10 is better for fast screaming leads!). Onboard pitch to voltage converter converts Theremins/guitars etc to the S-trig/CV system and you don`t need to use the MS20`s onboard sounds to use it, just whack the Converters outputs into your Mini/CS/Monopoly/MS50 etc. The MS20 is the heart of a complete matching system comprising of the MS10 (singe oscillator with PWM), MS20, MS50 (modular add on xpander with 1-osc and loadsa special modules, VC10 MS10 sized mini-vocoder and the SQ10 3X12 Analog sequencer with all sorts of possibilities, this lot plus a couple more MS synths would scare a lot of real small modulars.
