Ok folkes here goes, this may seem long winded but it'll be worth the read. I've owned a PPG, OBXA, Prophet VS, Wavestation, JD800, blah, blah, blah which are all wonderful synths in their own right don't get me wrong, but for God sake, my Prophecy is my very favorite. There's something living in this freakin silver box, it's so organic some of those patches literally speak their own language (electro babble), it honestly talks in growl, and the feedback, it's amazing, I would never part with it. As for it being monophonic well how the hell can that be a valid argument against it when you look at something like a minimoog, it's all about the sound you know. Oh well you say that's a minimoog and there's no comparison, ya well let me tell you something, the Prophecy has its own personality and it can do things sonically that a minimoog would only dream of. This thing doesn't or never did want to be a minimoog, it is its own sonic entity period. As for the Z1, well let me put an end to the myth of that piece of crap, it's not even in the same breath. The reason why is because there's much more MOSS processing power going into the Prophecy compared to its so called big brother on a per note basis. I asked the keyboard dept rep why it didn't sound nearly as good when it first came out and apparently the afformentioned is the reason why, by the way he also agreed. The Z1 is NOT 16 or whatever Prophecies, ok. This is the reason why many in this review board find the Prophecy much more dirtier with more personality, and it's way more plummier. Ever read the review for the Prophecy in Sound on Sound, how often do those guys write "Oh my God" at the beginning of their conclusion, ya that's what I thought. Didn't see that there when they reviewed the Z1. Let's face it once in a while and probably by dumb luck a company comes out with an instrument that is mysterious in its sound creation, you can't explain it but that certain magic is there and you just know it, the Prophecy is an excellent example. It was a fluke and I'm glad it was. Stop wasting time and track one down, trust me you'll fall in love with this thing. By the way did I mention that it talkes! Spend some time with it and you'll know what I mean.

I bought a Prophecy back in the day, when they first came out. Loved that thing to pieces, and sold it only to get a Z1 thinking - if the Prophecy sounds this good with just one voice, the Z1 is going to be crazy. What I found is that the Prophecy sounded a lot grittier/dirtier/meaner than the Z1. I don't know why there are differences in the sound even though they are supposed to be from the same engine, but they are definitely there. I wish I hadn't sold my Proph, and I am now looking to pick one back up..... Totally badass piece.

This thing blew my mind when it came out. Does everyone remeber standing in a music store and hearing that trombone patch for the first time? Holy crap!

This board is a gem and has a great left hand controller section. Some of the weirdest and satisfying noises and gurgles can be made with this thing.

My only con with this thing is that the screenn just blinks back and forth and back and forth. Annoying GUI issue.

after reading some of these posts i thought i should respond to what i thought, maybe to help someone looking into buying one of these.first off,im selling mine. i think it is very boring, sounds too fake(buzzy) and totally sucks programming patches.todays modern va synths have what we needed all along- tons of knobs!.being that it is a va monosynth,it is very limited and does not have the sonic capiblities as an analog. some good points you want- yea its small and easy to take anywhere.it has great abilities to control midi with the various ribbon controllers and wheels.it does make sounds not heard of on other synths-kinda has its own sound.good filters and cool looks. if you really want this synth id suggest buying the z1 since it has the same synth engine but many more features and more poly.otherwise save your money and get something better.
