Oh no it's not a keyboard that'll make cheesy Cher disco sounds, or other popular Jennifer Lopez like fluf, ugh I hate cheese dance music.

I'd say it's on your scale more towards and evil dark machine, It's bright too, but not in a cheesy house kind of way, ie. no silly organ stabs.

It's a wonderful machine, check one out -- they're one of the few original sounding Japanese keyboards made in the 90's.

Monophonic is good, but prophecy sampled in to my Esi-4k is that much more fun, Prophecy with 64 notes of polyphony and I can assign all the controllers on the Proph to control the cutoff resonance etc on the E-mu, damn sounds so huge you wouldn't believe it. Yes you lose some inate qualities but the added polyphony is sure fun, try it you'll be surprised, the Proph samples pretty darn well.

Yo homey -- just don't bush whack me wit dat caddy, kewl? - White Coloqiualism Ghetto (Aka pitiful)

Compared to an SH-101 or an MC-202,

The prophecy farts air, I'm serious here, I think the prophecy is band width limited, yes you can get bass from it, just kiss the sub bass you'd get from a real analog goodbye, as the prophecy will break up at only a octave or 2 down (if you're lucky) for example go to the slap bass sound (I thinks it's in patch a4 or thereabouts) page down 2 octaves and hit a note, unless you've got a sub woofer you're really not going to get much from it, compare this to my Mc-202 where those notes sound like a long 808 kick, really there is no comparison.

I use my proph in conjunction with a Juno6/106, Bass station, MC-202, and an E-mu sampler, and a host of Roland tr's, trust me I know what to expect and what to look for in a synth and truely the prophecy is best suited for leads and wacked out space sounds, try for bass I think you'll unltimately be disappointed.

Not to belittle the prophecy -- as it's the best 90's mono made, it's just not analog -- thus the bass seems seems to pale in comparison to a real analog. But it's still a 5 of 5.

My two cents. -Nubey

The Proph has FAT bass. I don't know where that other guy gets off saying that it doesn't . Actually, the Proph is some of the biggest bass I have ever heard...
