This synth sounds amazing. I wouldn't get it as an only synth because it's monophonic, but if you plan on getting other modules or recording to Hard Disk, or if not being able to play chords doesn't bother you, get it. It's kind of a pain in the arse to program, but most worthwhile stuff is. The keyboard on the Prophecy is superb, great velocity action...I think it would be a great master keyboard! If you can't afford the pricey Z1, pick up one of these. Korg needs to get off their ass and release the ProphecyII (starring Christopher Walken)..heheh. 41/2

Well, I guess it is about time that I throw my opinion up too. I've owned my prophecy for quite a while now. I'm the original owner, purchased it new, blah blah... After this time I still love this synth. The editing can be a bit monotonous when compared with my Odyssey or even JP-8000 but it is really worth the time. The Prophecy sounds so great. The JP-8000 is more in it's league but the Prophecy compares more closey with my Odyssey. Such a great pure and powerful sound. A very good analog emulation that you can really make growl. It's "fat" and all of those other little cliches as well. I will never sell it and really do recommend that if you are at all interested in purchasing one to do so now while you can still find them at reasonable prices. Awesome sound, goregeous synth and for all of those complaining about it being monophonic just get over it. You can only sing one note at a time, this is a lead/solo synth and it is really amazing and with how complex you can get the sounds you really aren't limited at all by one note. If someone offered me a Z1 for my Prophecy for some reason I would still keep the Prophecy, it's great to work with, designed very well and it does have character. This synth gets a very solid 5 for a rating.

The prophecy and his huge brother the Z1 are the fattest synths on earth. Dynamic and there!

Oh no, it's monophonic! That's such a limited view of this synth. Trust me when I say this synth sounds like nothing else on the market, you have almost unlimited possibilities. I guess you'd prefer the stale PCM 64 notes of polyphony and mulititribrality out the wazoo, sorry I'd prefer to make sounds on a more than capable mono synth, your poly midi box's will never replicate the bizzare abillity of the prophecy to make unearrthly sounds.
Word to the wise however: DO NOT EXPECT YOUR PROPHECY TO BE YOUR BASS LINE MACHINE! The prohecy excels in making strange leads and so forth but for whatever reason there is hardly any low end on Prophecy's it tends to start to break up at 2 octaves down, not at all useful for bass lines, but as a lead machine or for synth fill ins etc. the prophecy is where it's at. I use mine more often than I use my roland tr/mc/tb vintage gear.
Bottom line: If you're looking for a very open ended and expressive lead synth look no further, the prophecy is just that.
