The EA1 is a very nice piece of kit, especially for the price, sounds great looks great, easy to use. BUT the only problem I see is that quasimidi just dropped the price of the sirius to 599 UK and thats quite a bit more synth for not that much more cash! Whoever said FR777 should be shot , the EA1 wipes it with that POS, the filter on the 777 is more plasticy than the mc3o3 looks! Remember tho that the EA1 sends ALL realtime controllers out as NRPN's so it's only possible to record/play 1 controller on each part at any time! Still those sounds for 350 I don't know? SIRIUS or EA1 and DR202?????.....

just too much good stuff to talk about... absolutly love it.... just a few complaints.... 1) nob movements don't record over midi 2) only 64 patterns per song... can get around this, but it would be nice to use more... 3) EVEN WITH THE DAMN METRONOME OFF I CAN HEAR THE TEMPO LIGHT (albiet, faintly) GOING ON AND OFF.... GRRRR..... but thats it, and if you think i don't like it, you're crazy... i complain about everything all the time, and i've only got three about this thing... works great, sounds great, priced great.

i've got a few questions about how to integrate this and the ER-1 with a JP-8000.... or maybe an 8080... anyone out there who knows about this, could you email me, thx....

Robin Sarac a part-timer user from Canada writes:
Let me preface this my saying that I'm not an "analog slut". I try to keep my mind open and give every piece of gear I play with a fair shake. I'm also a fair believer that gear made for a very specific purpose is best. Enter the EA-1...

I finally bought one after weighing the opinions of the purists and the enthusiasts. I checked web sites and magazine reviews collecting as much information as I could about the EA-1. My conclusion was that this thing was something that would *integrate* very well with my current setup. That is to say it isn't positioned to compete against the do-everything MC X0X and RM1x boxes and shouldn't be compared with them. It is a two-monosynth package that works very well when coupled with other equipment. I couldn't be happier with it.

I played with it for an hour and started to believe what it's detractors were saying -- about it sounding good then wearing off. Then I started to program it myself. This thing is surprisingly flexible when you know how to use it.

The filter input is great fun and can be used to gate external audio and can coax some amazing sounds out of the unit. Try using a beat loop to modulate OSC2. Very cool...

The sequencer needs no discussion. Very intuitive, rock solid, great fun to program. It took me four minutes to throw my own pattern into it and edit events (gate time, etc.) to my liking.

The one piece of advice I would give Korg would be to charge more for it. I sincerely believe it would have been better received with a price tag twice what it is. Sounds silly, but people seem afraid of affordable quality. Bottom line is that if you like the way it sounds, you won't be dissappointed.

Its superb, the interface makes a refreshing change and the pre programmed patterns are great for inspiration.

Bottom line: It sounds great.

Many sounds (256 patterns x 2 synths = 512) and more importantly good sounds, especially when you use Ring Mod. or Sync together with Distortion ! The interface is OK, but it could use a bigger LCD for more info. I've put my E-mu Orbit through it and it works great (also for gating padsounds). I've compared in the shop with the RM1X and I found that the EA-1 has much more character. It's been a long time since I've had so much fun playing with a synth !
