This unit has the cheapest sound i have ever heard in an analog modeling device.

It looks like a toy and does not transmit proper cc.

It cannot be used as a midi controller.

If you are a newbie you might like it for a while...

I bought the EA-1 when it first came out awhile ago. It was really the first piece of gear I owned. Thus far I'm still using it in my ever expanding set up. I mostly use software but found the sounds in the EA-1 are really fat and when using it with Cubase SX it makes a lethal combo. I haven't taken out of the studio to play live so I can't say how it'll be during a live performance. I've enjoyed years of usage and plan on keeping this box for a long time. It's got some mean bass tones as long as you take the time to tweak. If 5 is the highest I give it a 4 outta 5. Could use a LFO but still for the price it can't be beat and you can grab 'em up on e-bay for around $125 or less.

Catched one used a few weeks ago. Sounds are quite versatile for such a little toyish box. For leads it may be limited, but i love it for rythm sounds, noises, "experimental", etc. Sure it does have lame features (ex: you must save patches together with patterns) & severe synth limitations (no lfo...), but you ve got to take it for what it is: a single particular instrument with its own possibilities. nobody ever asked the 303 to have, i dunno, a sample feature or somthg.. Well it's (hopefully) not a 303 -let's face it, 303 is totally has-been, isnt it? ;)

Chris a hobbyist user from Germany writes:
I bought my EA-1 a few years ago, soon after it was released. It's excellent for live-performance, because the sequencer is easy to use and it's very reliable.

A bad thing is that it does not properly seperate the two mono-out channels. This means, if mute part one on your mixer-console and turn up the mixer's gain of the channel you plugged your part-two in, you can still year part one (very silent, but recognizable). A guy from Korg told me, this was an error of the first delivered series (a few hundred ones).

Richie Rich a part-time user from Miami, FL writes:
I have an EA1, ER1, and just bought a used Korg DW8000.

The EA1 is excellent for creating melodic lines, acid sounds, and for live tweaking.

Although the DW8000 has some really wicked sounds and an arpegiator, I can already see that the EA1 will still have a prominent place in my rig because it has a sequencer and tweakable knobs in realtime.

Many of you say that the knobs are cheap. This is true. I replaced some knobs with the kind that are found on the MicroKorg. I got them at Radio Shack (part number 274-415A) and they are called 3/4" Hexagonal Control Knobs. Very sturdy, and noticed the difference immediately. If you don't have a mixer, I strongly recommend putting one on the master volume and the level control next to the distortion button.

Tweak on Tweaker!
