i have bought my ea-1 one year ago but i sold it two months later.... reason is .. no envelopes no sync effects. no lfo's just a plain sound generator. which is fun but not for making real sound breaking productions. korg ms 2000r is more expensive but you get more.

i got one at a warehouse sale... it kicks!! i use it on almost all of my compositions! kikin' sounds and wierd stuff... ill use it to trigger my rm1x live or to add ambience to a orchestral score... i also use it as a travel keyboard! its fun!! i only spent 100$ and if i spent more i would feel gypped... but its darn welcome in my setup... get one and the whole 'tribe for that matter! peace.

Time for an update on my EA-1 review, I've owned and tweaked this awesome little box for over two years now, and I'm still as enamored as I was at the beginning.

The EA-1 packs a lot of sonic potential for a box this size. The fact that Korg have not put in any cheesy presets in ROM, means that it will continue to be useful and inspiring for as long as it keeps on ticking. No one looks at an MC-202 and thinks of it as dated, but the MC-303 is another story... The Korg EA-1 is like an MC-202 coupled with a Korg Mono/Poly. Of course, you may get a wee bit bored with the raw sound, but that's nothing a few well connected guitar pedals won't fix. This is a dream machine, the sequencer is amazing, the memory is generous, and the interface is ergonomically designed. My only gripe is the poor build quality, with that silver finish that's not really aluminum and gets nicked and scratched by just looking at it, and the wobbly knobs and connectors. It's a live box you should keep in the studio, but if you must take it out, it's best to get a spare (they are really cheap these days). I would like to have a factory sealed one in my closet in case my current unit breaks and Korg ceases to manufacture them. I want to own and play this box until I'm 65 (at least). I feel the same about the ER-1 drum machine, but I'll save that review for the ER-1 section.

This thing is amazing, got mine for two years now, from very fat to nice bleeps 'n stuff.I hooked this one to my Akai MPC2000XL for raw acid loops and set the two parts to one midi channel on my MPC. When I hit the key on my controller keyboard you hear both parts of the EA-1. Sounds real good. You hear a sound of two oscillators and another two which can be detuned. That's a result of four oscillators. But for a nice well sounding sound is this method real good. Peace!

Okay, i wrote a review for this when i first got it and my opinion has changed somewhat. this thing is just plain fucking amazing. look people, stop bitching that its not some amazing power synth. i mean the thing weighs all of 2 freakin' pounds what do you want out of it? but for what i paid, 150 bucks or so, you CAN NOT get something better. it can do a lot more stuff than people seem to give it credit for. sure, it has the look and feel of a 303 and it can do that sorta squelchy acid stuff, hell it was born for it, but it can do a LOT more. i use it for everything. in a small studio like my own where i dont have room for a lot of gear this thing satisfies a lot of my needs. first as itself, to make basslines and screaming analog leads, but within that i use it as a soundbank, i use it as a sequencer (i wish there were more than four bars you could sequence but its so fast and intuitive and you can change stuff up on the fly, great for live stuff)and as an effects unit YES an effects unit. need to make something sound a little different? send it thru the audio in and the ea-1s filters OR (like i tend to use it) the FUCKING AMAZING delay. the delay is so good on this im thinking of selling my rack module. when it comes down to it it does a certain sound and it does it spectacularly. i think its a very versatile piece of gear, and portable, and for beginners its great, for people on a budget its great, for people who just love to tweak its the absolute best. i can sit down with this thing and the hours fly by. hell, i've even heard at least 3 of the preset patterns in songs on tv or on the Wipeout Fusion soundtrack (yes!) if you have any questions about this thing, feel free to email me. i will not sell mine for love nor money, it has become one of my prized posessions. yay korg!
