Our post facility is always open to new technolgy to create new arrangements for most any sort of film we are commisioned to score. The EA-1 has proven invaluable.

The problem with this box is its image. I did some trance tracks and had my friends guess what gear they are hearing. None of them guessed that the EA-1 part was the EA-1. They just knew it wasn't romplers nor samples. Most of them even think it was my Nord Lead or Rebirth. I think that really tells you how great this little box actually sounds.

The EA-1 doesn't claim to be anything other than a virtual analogue box with 909 type sequencer. And it succeeds at that pretty well, I do wish it took batteries..then I could do a live gig with a pignose amp and the box on the street corner - I wish the guys at Korg would just make a midi sequencer using that look and feel - i'd pick it up in a sec.

What in god's name do you want an LFO for anyway?

Cheesy filter sweeps -- can be done with a flanger anyway,

LFO tremelo effect -- can be done with delay (better sounding too)

Modulate the envelope -- well you have a point here -- but still this is something I rarely ever do except on my matrix 6 -- using the LFO for envelope mods sounds like shit generally to me especially on my juno's.

Modulate the osc's -- again you have a point, but it does already have a detune for osc 2 anyway so it's in my opinion better to have an individual control for detuning rather than having to rely on an LFO.

LFO's are ok -- overused yes -- a single LFO doesn't cut it for me anymore I need atleast 2 independent LFO's for a decent sound relegate yourself to one LFO and it just sounds like a mad flanger. So for $300 2 channel mono synth is it really that necessary?

I wish all delay's were tempo synced -- Use this on a 80bpm break/rap/hip hop beat/etc. use a short delay with a small amount of feedback for some crazy fast breaks that if done right actually sound original -- easy easy easy to do jungle breaks this way. also set the ea to the right tempo you're using before doing this in other words don't filter a 120bpm break with the EA's tempo set to 80 make sure they're in sync at the same BPM.

all in all a great little unit for transposing melodies from headspace to reality, really a jack of all trades box it's 303 is passable it's 101/202 bass capabillities are right on too, bleeps pops, drum sounds, leads, basses, rhythm etc. it can all be done here esp. with the very useable on board sequencer oh yeah it can filter sounds too so also the cheapest external filtering synth available as well (well bass stations are cheaper now too).

If you make electronic music then buy one -- they're little workhorses housed in a cute silver and blue metal casd and they're cheap too. definitely a 5 stars for value alone.
