Wow...$350, thats all I have to say. Sounds great, way better than I expected.The bass is DEEP and can hit hard. It would be nice if it were a bit bigger and the knobs were spaced apart a little more, and the blue paint seems to scratch off really easy... Other than physical things this will make an impact on my sound. Like I said, the price can't be beat for what you're getting.

Just a comment to what I said before: The comparison to an AN1x was a bit unfair. I'm not going to go into the capabilities/differences between the AN1x and EA-1. We can discuss this elsewhere. More relevantly, I just didn't like the sound of the EA-1's filter, nor the "feel".
However, I thought I might add that the EA-1 has a brilliant layout, and it doesn't sound *bad*, just not the best. That's why I gave it a 3 out of 5. But it seems obivous that people are creating neat new sounds and using them to make creative stuff with the EA-1. I'm of the opinion that the equipment is only secondary to the music. If someone is able to produce brilliant music, by say, using a one oscillator monosynth, it's just more evidence that their talent transcends the limitations of the equipment. This box would be an interesting addition to a collection of synths, but I can't see making music on it alone. Furthermore, I can't see it as an addition to my collection, but to those who make great music on the EA-1, I salute you.

Well, first of all I just want to say that for $349 the EA-1 is a great synth. It's cheap, sounds excellent and is fun and easy to use.
I have made mine squawk like a 303 and thump like a moog. It's a very powerful little synth despite it's size, price and few limits.
Comparing it to the an1x is like comparing a juno 106 to a tb-303. There's just no comparison. Both the EA-1 and An1x serve different purposes. I think the Filter sounds great on the EA1. It's very smooth and moog like, yet it can tear up like the 303.
You really need to spend some time with the synth before it works the way you want it to. Also, to pan a voice all you have to do is pan it on your mixer. Anyway, overall it's a great buy for the money.

hey, Nick (Hladek) I tried the EA-1 and the An1x the other day at GC. (EA-1 was listed at $399, still not the lowest price.) My experience about their filters was opposite to yours. I was there hoping to get their last An1x, but I played around with the EA-1 first. I kind of liked the inspiration it gave despite the fact that the two part won't pan, no accent/slide, blah blah blah. Then I turned to An1x. The first thing I tested was its filter. Its stepping was clearer than I thought. Its self-oscillation sounds very crude and metallic. I heard EA-1 stepped only a bit. But that might just be control change conflicts. (I tweaked the knobs while running its preset patterns with recorded motion control.) So that day I left without the An1x. However, now I think I am gonna get one of those little silver EA-1's instead. It should be fun to play with in front of the TV.

Hmmm ... I saw one in the store a couple of weeks ago and I wasn't too impressed. Checked it out again today and my feelings didn't change. The knobs on the box seem really cheap, and the filters were so-so (actually, pretty depressing compared to my JP-8000 or AN1x). Otherwise, the TB-303 style sequencing is pretty neat, and I wouldn't mind playing around with it. I don't think it's worth $349, though (that's how much they're selling it for at zZounds.com) and the store I was in (we won't mention any names, Guitar Center) had the "World's Lowest Price, Guaranteed" of $499 - list price! Let me not ramble about music stores however. Save your pennies and try to find a AN1x on closeout ... it doesn't have a sequencer on it, but you can find them for about $470 (or less!) and it's a full blown control synth with better analog modeling and some nifty FM stuff, too. Or just wait a while - they're bound to come down in price. I guess Korg wanted to put out an Analog Bass deal at a cheap price ... but it's obvious that they either skimped a bit or missed the mark. The ER-1 is a different story, on the other hand.
