Johannes DeSilentio a professional user from Denmark writes:
I never got a manual with this box, so I never really explored making entire songs with it. Otherwise, I would say this is a decent drum machine. I find the design a little cheesy, and the construction feels pretty cheap; I wouldn't anticipate these things lasting a terribly long time. It sounds okay. It can do more than just drum sounds, which is nice. After a while , though, my sounds all started to sound alike. The snares are pretty weak, but like someone else said, layering helps, and I found using a ring mod on layered snares makes them even more punchy. I did crash on me once. I left the memory protect on, and when I fired it up, I had lost about 30 of my patterns. In their place were identical 300 bpm noise/delay beats. Anyone else experience anything like this? Overall, not terrible, but not exactly professional quality either.

great kicks, plus a way to make various analog-like perc.thats all.careful sequencing can have better result.my 2nd choice on the electribes series(the 1st is es-1, but ea-1 is not good enough to have a posistion in my mind).if u can't afford a drumstation or u wanna make analog-like perc kits rather than 808/909 clones,it's for u.

Theres not much to say about this machine except that everybody should get one a.s.a.p. I think Im very lucky to be an owner of this wonderful thing, I simply dont know what to say......... Feelings and emotions I cant describe!

Rizal Khan a hobbyist user from Malaysia (currently in australia) writes:
The Korg ER-1 is right now my main drum machine. I agree with the reviews i have read about how they tend to sound plasticy on head phones but with real good speakers or being drowned in a mix it can sound more professional. Well...i say that the kick sound is very unique. I've tried but without luck getting a 909 or 808 kind of sound but maybe its just me. I like the kick sound tho. It comes in between a 909 and 808 and to me its something new and not the same old kicks u hear most of the time. The snare can be abit weak. I like the hi and lo hats ...and clap is quite strong as well..You can also create wierd noises with this thing rather than just look at it with a drum machine..The INput is a bonus...great feature...I would have really liked a master filter..(cut off and resonanse)...All and all I like it. And thats my personal opinion. ...I hear there is a new electribe coming out soon that combines the synth, drum machine and sampler...i might be wrong..or it might be out...Shine on

Assembler a hobbyist user from Chicago writes:
Go to EBay and pick yourself up one of this babies for under $300. If you pay more than $300 then you've overpayed and should have gone with a better machine.

All being said, this is a great machine for the price. Out of the box it will sound weak and cheap, but it will grow on you as you play with it and begin to learn it's quirks and strengths. It is capable of a wide variety of sounds, but if you aren't careful it will give you the illusion of being weak.

The drawbacks: only 1 set of outs, the delay effect is global, and the editing style is a pain (i.e. the "default" light is of little use when your switching between synth sections).

If you're curious to see what it's like to make techno music and are up for some experimentation, then this is the box for you. If you find that you like making music, then this machine will make an excellent stepping stone for future equipment upgrades. Don't sell it, just add on.
