A great piece of kit considering the price !! Its capable of producing some rather wierd and glitchy sounds ! I love the delays .... this makes it even easier to produce some rather messed up patterns ! very easy to programme sweet kick / tom-like sounds. Yes, the snare is quite weak, but can it layerd and used to compliment another snare. I mainly use the machine to create squeaky, blippy efx, which sit behind my main beats, and for that purpose it it totally wicked !!

Strange thing about my ER1. I bought it in 2000 brand new and sell one year after. In 2004 I bought it second hand (`cause it is god damned good machine anyway)and was suprised I`d got MY ER1 again with the same serial number! Good for travelling just drop it in your lugagge + headphones and you will have definetely something to do. If you see it less than for 175 USD buy it with no regretS

I was using this at my job with just the headphones. I don't own one, I'm an MPC die hard fan, but this machine was inspiration in a box. It pretty much a drum synth. You create your own kicks, hats, snares, and much more. Bass sounds and weird effects can be made on this beast. I couldn't figure out how to use the sequencer (I was at work with no manual) and I couldn't figure out how to adjust the attack on a sample (there was no attack knob), but I would create a sound, and sample it into the MPC and adjust it there. The ER-1 gots balls! Thumpin' kicks, crazy hi-hats.. the snares are it's low point, but it's good to accent those sampled snares you grabbed off wax. I give it a four, only because it should run of batteries!! A really great, and indispensible piece of kit! I'm trying to get one right now while their cheap.

Having just purchased one of these units, the bass drums can really thump with simple programming. The snares unfortunatly so have to be improved. The filters and wave forms just dont cut it where snares are concerned and a better design would have been to include either PCM snares or sampled snare sounds as basic building block sounds to further tweek to your liking.
But remember its not a drum machine as such, and anyone looking for an 808 or 909 should stay clear of this machine, as many advertisements try to dress it up as such. Saying that however, when are Roland/ Boss getting an act together and finally produce a modern TR dedicated drum machine (with proper pressure pad design)and loads of knobs for total hands on control. Its well overdue.

Not just a drum machine, but a drum synthesizer as well. In other words you can actually create your own drum sounds through synthesis and then program patterns and songs from there. Like all the other older electribes this thing is really easy to program and perform on. Hook it up to an electribe ea1 and you got a slammin electronic performance/production center. The best part is that you can these really cheap off ebay (usually between $100-$150 bucks.)
