Great machine. Finally a drummachine in the lower price range that can make it's own sounds. Bass drums that are thick. Samples work nicely. Great for sound effectual rhythmic oddities as well.

Pretty simple layout, but that's what makes it such a useful tool. The sequencer is as easy as it gets and works very well with racked drum gear. I use it to make programs and trigger the Drumstation/DM5. Good midi implementation.

Definitely a box with it's own personality and usefulness.

Finally bought my EA-1's sister, the ER1. And I'm torn up about how to review it. It's not a bad little box, but it's just much better on it's own rather than in a mix with my RM1x.

Sounds pretty decent. To me at least, when you put the two Electribes together, it sounds a bit "Virtual analog" overkill. The kick drums you can make are great, it's just too bad that it can sound waay too much like the Electribe A.

The hihats are okay, nothing to write home about, but the accent really drowns things out. Makes all the bass drums just eat up everything... EQ time.

I think I see why the "pros"(a la the people Korg interviews about it) think this is a nice "toy". It's got a great sequencer, but those V.A. kicks just have a different feel to it. Not bad, just different. I don't like two drum machines running at once, so I'm going to mute out my RM1x's drums for a time to see how well the ER's can mix in, and/or pinch hit.

Another thing is that the PCM's cut themselves off a bit. Like if you have hihats running closed and open, have a cymbal then a clap, the clap will close the decay of the cymbal. Not cool.

Oh well... Not as cool as the EA1, or as useful, but a well earned four.

Very nice machine.I bought it for 5 days ago and still it fun to tweek around the soounds for hours.I love the sound. This is the nicest drumachine for this price. But there is a disturbin thing. If u drive on a pattern on 16 th note (triplet) and use the only sampled sounds on this machine. If u use the closed hihat and open at same time.somehow the open hihat cuts off and just makes the half open hihat sound.very disturbin.other this machine is great.U really can make very nice tweeky drums. And really kickdrums that punch u in ur stomach.

Very nice box, it could use a little more drum sounds but you can tweak the existing sounds into anything you could imagine, this an excellent drum machine. Still waiting to see the es-1 but I don't know how much more of an improvement it could be.

Lovely little box. Virtual Analog Sounds Great. A tweakers Dream. And guess what? Korg has released a little brother to the ER-1, the ES-1 which is uses a similar design but it's a sampler and drum box !!! Peace.
