Where do I begin? My first synth, as well as my alltime favorite. I've bought and sold quite a few synths since I've had the Polysix, and never once even considered selling it. I'm selling my Minimoog because I still vastly prefer the sound and versatility of the Polysix! I can get the exact same bass with the Korg that I get out of the first oscillator on the Mini. Better, actually. Cleaner. Try to tell the difference between a Prophet 5 and a Polysix unless you have them side by side. Good luck. The unison mode is intense. The arpeggio is a blast. The strings are warm as hell and uber creepy and atmospheric. The sweeps are like butter. Noises from another dimension.... Shall I go on? Buy one before they're impossible to find. But make sure to change that damn battery. It's caused many of these already rare synths an untimely death. If you know how to program analog synths, you'll find this is the best for the price range. I sold my Nord Lead 2, as it was crapola compared to the Polysix. And I knew how to use it. I love how it can knock your ass senseless with explosive, ballsy leads and fat bass, but it can lull you into a trance with its ambient droning alter ego. All hail the Polysix! I have a room ful of synths, and boy are they jealous.

Sounds wonderful - deep, harsh with really acid feeling. Not very universal, but in his own way completly unique. Needs to be frequently cleanning to be in perfect condition. This is serious tripy machine !

The Poly Six definitely has a very dark and slightly harsh sound that I can't really compare to many other synths. Its not my favorite synth, but its unique sound makes its a necessity for me. What makes this synth is the effects section, particularly the ensemble effect. Chorus is fine but a little noisy. Using the ensemble effect with a string sound gets you closer to a mellotron sound than any sample. The chorus effect tends to add a lot of body to the brass and organs. I actually still use this board for some of my dirty organ type sounds. Stack the oscillators and you get some great lead sounds.
Here are the negatives. If you rely on Analog sounds a lot, you probably won't want to make this your're only board. Put this one on your second tier above the JP, OBXA or Pro 5 (its light enough compared to these other beasts). The Poly 6's single oscialltor design and lack of modulation effects compared to, say, a JP 6/8 or Pro 5, make the sounds a little limited. Plus, take away the effects section and the sounds are pretty darn thin (although this can also be said about the Juno and its chorus effect). I would also like the ability to control the presence of the suboscillator as you can on the Juno. I'm not a big fan of the LFO (labeled modulation section on the board). You just don't get that really warm vibrato like the JP 8. However, the Poly 6 can be found for a fraction of the price that the other analog greats of its era command and is definitely worth it. Just don't expect an OBXA or Pro5.

a quite different sounding synth, this must be the "american" sound that appeals to many users. though i personally prefer the juno, the poly six really shines when it comes to dark, slightly metallic noises. to put it esoterically ;) juno is the sun - polysix is the moon.

I have owned the following true 100% analog synthezisers: Roland SH-101,Korg MS-20,Korg MS-20,Moog Prodigy,Yamaha CS15,Prophet 5 REV2 (SSM2040), Minimoog(early version), Oberheim Matrix 6,Korg Poly800, Bit One (SSM). I have also played a lot with Roland junos, jupiter 8 etc. The only synth that has that haunting raw, swirly, warm but aggressive filter and butterlike VCO sound that the Polysix has was my loved Prophet 5 REV2, but that had much more bandwidth and it wasnt as raw, but had the same smooothness and haunting resonance. It also cost A LOT and the REV2's are very hard to find! The more common REV3 while still a good synth is completly different in character. It doesnt matter to me if a synth has limited features if the basic soundcharacter is so wonderfull as that of the Polysix. I love my minimoog for bass and I love my polysix for those haunting pads and ultrafat unison sounds.
Bottomline: One of the most underrated synth in the world! Next to the Prophet 5 REV2, an early minimoog and the Oberheim OBX, the polysix has the best soundcharacter I have ever heard, thats good company for a synth that you can buy for 200USD....
