My first synth was the Sonic6 and I played it in bands in High School.. It's great for effects and very easy to use and learn on. The builtin speaker and case are handy too. As a performance instrument though, I can't really recommend it. The oscellators drift a lot in pitch and they're tricky to tune. It really could have used another envelope generator also.. Still, it's a nice instrument and you can get some great sounds that are hard to replicate with a Minimoog or Micromoog.

Also my first synth circa 1975 bought it new for ?? recently bought one in mint condition great for learning basics of analog synthesis, good manual, nice board layout lots of external controls typical 70's Moog sound lots of mod routings one peice unit with built in speaker great for on the road play when you dont want to take half a studio with anybody know a site with patches ??

My first synthesizer (back in 1973) was a Moog Sonic 5, essentially the same as the Sonic 6 but in a non-portable walnut case. There were a couple of cool features that I have never found on any other self-contained synth. The twin LFOs were a great feature. You could set up some really oddball modulation patterns. The other thing I liked was the instrument's ability to apply glide to only one of the two oscillators. This could be used to create an almost human-like sound. I really miss my old Sonic 5 and hope to replace it one of these days. A totally cool instrument.

I have a sonic six that I bought in 1982 which has been modified extensively. It's a totally amazing synth! It screeches like a human. There'e no singer in my band, but the sonic fills in perfectly! Try routing your oscillator output into the filter as a modulation source; it screams! Get one if you can find one!

the sonic six" not much I can say besides thank you for finding your way to Caverdeen! we've been long expecting you. the synthesizer that you never need to touch. the noise maker that makes noise without the use of filters. straight to hypnosis, you waste no time. square wave nice and slow on waveform gen Y...and any thing you like nice and quick on gen X, mix together with your choice of ring modulated occilators, or ext. input. and then switch some octaves, and pitch knobbing.. maybe then trigger the envelope with a key, and then another and then change occilator waveform. and then turn around and set the arpeggiator to something nice on another synth boom, blap, wump, crrr, repeat...and now drop your hands on a high pitch key of another "lead" synth, then switch it up, and make it lead bass this is should work you into a timespace where you yourself can speak "oooooooooo", "ooo-ooo-ooo", "nmph-nmph-phnn-phue" the sonic six, the complete sound of inefficiency.(Check Spelling)
