I have now spent a year and a half(apprx.)with my Sirius and I am still putting it to use more than my Novation Supernova II. The sounds aren't as warm and extensive as the Novation, but the control and ease of song creation with the sequencer is awesome. I don't even bother writing beats on my Roland DR-202 beacause the drumgrid programming is so easy and time efficient on the Sirius. I have to spend an hour with My supernova and Emagic Logic Sequencer to do what I can do in ten minutes with the Sirius. The vocoder's only purpose is to be applied to the beats you create (in my opinion) because the way it reacts to voices makes me what to go shell out $300 for an Electrix vocoder. It is just a tease of what the world of the vocoder is like.

I have now had my sirius for just over one year now.Ok the drums are gooood i'll give them that but i bought this piece of kit on the hype alone, mail order,Rebirth doesnt even compare to the real thing nor glider(shame)!I actually expected something a bit better but was just left feeling a bit well, the voices are not exactly all that good im afraid a bit cold and tinny. I listened to the MS2000 in a shop and the voices were rich and warm. Still i wouldnt part with it i love my sirius as it provides me with a bloody good source of ideas.

Once again, gear bashers. Hey, I don't bash your shit man. This thing is bad ass. I'm gonna tell you- USE YOUR INSTRUMENT TO ITS FULLEST. I do trance. I believe that this thing was based mainly to produce that kind of music, BUT the other day, me and my friend did some totally awsome experimental/ambient/idm stuff with a DX7, an EA, and the SIRIUS. It's great. This thing is meant to compliment a set up and for a good live production. Sound cold my ass. My brother, this thing f!$*ing delivers. If you spin, or you just do keyboards, this thing rox. Remeber when 909 and 808 weren't popular? Now look. Don't bash. It is wrong. Orbital used a damned stylophone for "Style" and I had no idea what one was. You damn gear bashers, what the hell! Say something nice for once. If you don't like it, you can't give shit that says it's "boring" or "cold." There is no reason that I can see why you say that! I'll be here each time someone bashes this. I'm gonna put some of my shit up (not presets) just to show what you can do...

I loved it at first, as I was only using it in a stage environment........ but once subjected to detailed scrutiny in the studio, lots of things become annoying.

Why make a device that's clearly intended to be drum machine AND synth and then only give it one stereo out? That's lame, for the price. The sound of the machine is REALLY cold, and that's useful sometimes, but more often than not it's not. The drum sounds are kind of lacking in clarity, and there's an almost grainy quality to everything that comes out of the machine. All in all, not as much use as I'd hoped.

Lorin a hobbyist user from USA writes:
I got one of these about a month ago and have written almost 5 tracks (just need to finish the mixdowns)!

Sequencing is great...you can choose between realtime. drum grid & step recording. Using a mixture of all three generates some great sequences.

Drumgrid is really cool...say you want a 4 bar pattern. Program the first bar (just like a 909), then to see the next bar you just page over, program this bar, go to the next, ect. Super good way to build up complex rythms. Next go into realtime record, add some percussion to it to give it a "live" feel, then go to a synth part and choose step record, lay down a bassline, do the same for a lead synth, and then go back to realtime to record another lead. Viola..a song takes shape.

Sounds are decent...some quite similar, but wait, I can change the waveform, tweak the filters & the next thing you know I have a monster on my hands! Granted...the Sirius is not as easy to get the sounds I want out of it as a Roland 8080, or even a MC505, but it is punchy and agressive.

The drums are a winner though...just check out the Kick drums...whoa! F$%^&ing A! You get 96 different sets as well, plus percussion!

The vocoder is cool too. I never thought of adding vocals before, but now I can do crazy shit, even send the keyboard sequences through it.

The best thing about itis that when I go to turn it on, the mixes I made the night before all play back correctly...the sounds, the levels, panning info, controller information, ect. I know this is the way things SHOULD work, but it shure is nice to experience it!!!

Also, the manual is great, easy to follow, good descriptive photos, ect.

Cheers!
