I like the sound.. although a bit noisy it can make some convincing analog textures. 4 DCOs give many opportunities.. only saw and square waves, though. The filters are not that great but if you have an external filter box (like MAM warp-9 or whatever) you can create even cooler sounds. The 6 outputs are great thing to have and the built in reverb can even make some cool delay sound for trippin melodies, the delay time however is only adjustable by 7 steps or so.

The operating system is not very easy to learn if you're used to have a big screen. Better get a software editor to tweak those envelopes etc.

I traded my DX11 for this box and am happy with it.. this machine is 10 years old or so and has got some serious beating but it still works flawlessly.

Overall cheap alternative for trance/dance/techno whatever if you dig deeper than presets (who buys a synth for presets anyway?)

Great value for the $$$. Adds a lot to my rig and I got about 8 different cards with it too. So, I have hundreds of extra sounds. That is the key with this puppy ---find some ROM sound cards and you are gonna have more fun. Get as many as you can cuz they are rare and they are GOOD!!

I've had the D110 a couple of years now. The reason i got it was because it was so cheap (80ukp) and included an expansion card. I had no idea what to expect but I was impressed with at least some of the stuff it could do. As everyone has already commented, acoustic sounds are poor to downright terrible. The presets do suck but they can be improved upon massively with only a minor amount of tweeking. The Piano preset is terrible and after an hour or so of faffing I had something that very closely resembled a Grand Piano, albeit over about 2 octaves!! Most patches can be made much fatter....

Say for example a sound uses 2 of four available partials. Copy partials 1 and 2 into 3 and 4, then slightly detune 3 and 4 and maybe set the cutoff of the filter lower (although the filters only work on the waveforms not the PCM Samples which is a shame). This will reduce polyphony but you get far richer sounds.

I use this module occasionally for weird pads, and I love it for Organs, which I often setup to play 5ths or 7ths automatically by detuning each partial to the desired interval.

Aviod this module for any acoustic sounds, bass (due to phase problems) and strings are also terrible on it!!

If you're going to buy one (if its cheap you should!) try and get some sound expansion cards the sounds are much better. I have the Trance / Ambient card and there are some fantastic pads and Chromatic Percussion etc.

Great synth. But I only use the Synth-Bass-Sounds. Im going to try to dump some sounds Ive found on the web, because the original presets are poor.

Rocco Flores Oneto a professional user from Peru writes:
The D-110 in my opinion is a transition sytnh. It's hybrid design makes it unique. Linear Arithmethic Synthesis sounds very complex and ideed these modules were sort of parameter madness. Filters sounds very warm but rather thin. Samples as useful as a ZX Spectrum. I programmed it with Steingberg's SynthWorks for Atari which make me aware of the real potential of this real cheap module. Phase cancelation on bass sounds was an incredible bug, I noticed it on 3 of these machines. For Electronic music it can provide in my opinion very original sounds. Acoustic instruments are useless, and drums too. But once again I find SoftSynths like Rebirth, RubberDuck and Reality a wiser alternative to this charming huge black boxes.
