This keyboard is the first i've played and i think it's almost wonderful. The only lackness i think it's piano sound(not the electric ones)but the D50 is a synthesizer and it shines in this way.Great pads, warm strings. It reachs the top in the digital sounds(You can play Pink Floyd's Run like Hell solo with a machine that costs half of the half of the half of Kurtzweil)!).The organ are good too, just add a distorsion and you can get a sound quite close to hammond. Some sounds are unique and other more expensive synth aren't able to sing like d-50.The keys are ones of the best i've ever touch.I broke my D-50 one night gigging and i've had to replace it with another suddenly. Its sound is unique!Enough hard to me to program but there's a lot of material avaiable on the net.The manual it's terrificant.I own also a Korg m1 and think that with the multi effects(D-50 has only chorus and reverb) and some decent piano sample it would be better.

I got myself a D50 a couple of years ago, and even now, I am still under the spell of that wonderful synthetizer. Just the rich sounds quality, the way to can access all parameters and can create your own sounds, its look.....just a must have. specially now as it is not as expensive as it once was. Much better than it's babies D10 and D20, it is Roland as its best.
By the way, has anyone any idea how to get the sounds cards???? they are absolutely unavailable in the UK .I also tried in Paris and Zurich, but cold turkey.

May be I am an old fashion Kraut, as you would say in the US, but I love the sounds, the warmth and the look of this King. It is an old keyboard that for me as not lost any of its brillance and each time I turn it on, I am ready for something magic. Much easier than a DX7 and ever so Gemtlich to use (untranslatable in English)
An old fav of fime.

This is the second time that I have owned a D50, I sold the first one in 1993 to upgrade, years later I found I missed certain sounds such as string pads organs and certain unique sounds I managed to create, unless your a sadist you really need to use a sound that has a similarity to what you want to create and then tweak it till your happy, get the PG1000 programmer I have had one for each D50 and it makes it a whole lot easier even then the programmer sliders are multi function, the other reason I bought another is the keyboard, it has good feel has velocity and aftertouch, good enough for Gary Numan to replace his Jx's, sadly sound cards are no longer available for it now so must be cheap.....Buy the Supernova 2 as well if you can afford it....

Wrong! The M1 is a far superior synth and many of its sounds are still excellent and used everywhere. The D50 is ok but is very outdated in most respects. The sounds are copied and improved upon on most Roland synths. The M1 is a better sounding and better build keyboard which is still used in top studios. Get a JD800 if you want a classy Roland rompler.
