Stephen a professional user from NEW-YORK writes:
The D-50 will always be the best when it comes to keyboard synth. I got mine along with the PG-1000 programmer for $900. Expensive for an old synth, but worth every penny. I also have the D-550 rack module of the D-50 for $300. I mostly use it for studio recording, and some live gigs. I rate this synth +5 'cause w/o it there would not be "Haitian Kompa", "Se li'k gin son la ri ya", translation "this synth has the sound of the streets".

DoctorX a hobbyist user from Sweden writes:
The D-50 was my first synth and it seems that i will not ever part from it. The user interface i crappy as hell, but once you penetrate the surface of programming, vonderful things will happen. Get the PG-1000 programming unit to ease things up a little. It's a good sizer for low costs, so get one.

Kevin a hobbyist user from Northeastern USA writes:
This board can create some beautiful, heart-melting sounds. It is a bit difficult to program sounds from scratch however. I used to have a DX7 and it was nice knowing that you had the capability of producing an almost infinite number of sounds using sine waves. I sold it because the D50 sounds much warmer and less digital than the Yamaha. The strings and synthesizer pads are top notch. The keyboard action feels wonderful too! The piano sounds are terrible when compared to my Yamaha W-7. This is a great keyboard for New Age and Dark Wave music. I hope to hang on to it for a few more years.

RODI a professional user from france writes:
Sounds ok with factory sounds but as soon you edit to get soft sounds there's a lot of digital noises that makes the sound unusable.. I open it thousand times to clean one or two note whith velocity problems , but as soon as i played it a few times, the problem comes again on other notes..I must open it every week for cleaning since one year...so tired. (if somebody has a solution..) In spite of all these problems.. i love it...:-)

The general a professional user from PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF HARINGEY(NORTH LONDON) writes:
I'm sorry, but this is a weedy synth. Think about it, DX series Yamahas, the D'series competitors, utilise wave generation(operators)i.e. they create raw sound to manipulate. The D50 and it's siblings might sound more impressive at first but they are basically sample+synthesis playback devices, with a few fancy effects. Do you want to mess around with raw sound waves(DX),or mess around with someone else's 1987 idea of what the future of music must sound like. The D50 is a machine with limited scope and possibilities, perfectly capable of instant `wow' factor yet lacking in the true depth. Let's face it, people still buy DX's; Linear Arithmetic? Who cares!
