The 74LS04 is a very standard TTL chip. Every electronics parts store will have them. My guess is it won't cost you more than $1,-

A Roland sound module from the early nineties, using the same synthesis engine as the similar U-110. Essentially, it's a sample-playback-with-filtering box, not a million miles removed from a Korg M1, or a D-70 without the sound generation, although much cheaper second-hand. The sounds are crisper and less 'bitty' than those in the U-110, and the end result is very useful as a 'texturer' if you have a rack of analogue sound-alikes. It even has an arpeggiator. The keyboard version is the U-20, which has a long and distinguished history on Usenet.

i have roland u-220, but my u-220 now can't function, when i chek in main board, IC-74LS04 it's broke, if every know, what funtion IC-74LS04, in my country its difficult for service roland, thank for your help...

As far as I know, you'll find the famous prodigy-string-sound (Which Liam uses all the time) in this synth.
I must buy one.

I've had my U-220 since 1991. This, along with my PROteus/1, makes up my non-analogue set. I like the "dark" piano sound, myself. The strings, choirs, and pads are killer for backgrounds or filling with a drone. As for the sax sample mentioned in another review, if you want to do detailed horn riffs, with lots of expression, then no, this won't do. Get a real sax player. For quick fills and hits, it's perfect. Match it with the Trumpet/Trombone patch and you have a Motown section. When you use the U-220, as with all PCM synths, it's not for creating gritty DX7 or Juno sounds. But be creative with your arrangements, and you'll never see boundaries again
